Hi all,
I am new around here and I just wanted to share my configuration I ordered last week.
Most important for me is to have a HTPC is to do everything with and without any restrictions.
- Watching and recording Digital Cable TV (DVB-C) and Digital Satelliet TV (DVB-S)
- Playing games
- Browsing the internet
- Plugin my SD card to show the pictures i have taken
- Watching DVD and offcourse HD-DVD and Blue-Ray content
- Listen to MP3 and radio
It needs to be quite and it needs to look nice as it will be placed in the livingroom.
Otherwise my girlfriend will get crazy
After reading lots of reviews and information on the internet i came up with the following configuration :
HTPC Case :
HFX mCubed Media PC Black/Black Media Front
HFX Borg HPC Heatpipe Processor cooler All Sockets
HFX iMon VFD panel with IR remote
HFX Vertical Silence HDD cooler
This case is specialy designed for use with heatpipes and so less noise of fans in the HTPC.
Motherboard :
GigaByte Moederbord GA-P35-DS4
Normally i am always buying Asus motherboards, but I decided to buy the Gigabyte instead.
As this board has all the features i need to setup the right HTPC and for a good price.
It has also the feature to upgrade my pc in the future with the upcoming 45nm processors.
It has IEEE1394 Firewire connection onboard for the use of my 2 Digital tuners.
Optical Audio Out SPDIF to connect to my Dolby Digital Surround Receiver.
CPU :
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2.60 GHz, 1333 MHz, 4 MB , Boxed
Powerfull CPU to do all the work. I am gonna use the HFX Borg HPC Heatpipe Processor cooler and connect it to the heatsink of the case. Hopefully it will cool down the processor enough. Anybody experience with this case and processor heatsink?
Memory :
GeIL DDR2 Ultra Series Dual Channel 2048 MB, PC6400, 800 MHz, 4, Non-ECC, Kit Of 2
CAS 4-4-4-12
Fast memory for cheap price
Powersupply:
Seasonic Voeding S12II-500 500 Watt ActivePFC, Retail, 20- En 24-pins
On the reviews the Seasonic is one of the most quite Active Powersupply on the market.
Case fans :
Noctua NF-S12-800 Case Fan 120 mm
These fans are equipped with a magnetically centred, self lubricating oil-pressure bearing that provides a new level of quietness and long-term stability. Noise will be around 5 dB.
Because i am using also heatpipe videocard it is in my opinion to have airflow in the HFX Case. Otherwise it is getting to hot inside.
Videocard:
MSI VGA Radeon HD2600 XT Heatpipe 512 MB
I know it is not a excellent gaming card, but if i am playing games it will not be that often in our livingroom.
Ati chipset will take away the CPU usage when watching High Definition content. The Avivo software provided by Ati will hopefully make my picture quality even better. I did not choose for Nvidea because it will not take away the CPU usage when watching Blue-Ray content. Ati does both Blue-Ray and HD-DVD content.
Harddisk :
2x WD HDD Caviar SE16 500 GB, 7200 Rpm, 16 MB, S-ATA II/300
One of the most quite HDU at the moment with this amount of capacity. Hopefully when i use the HFX Vertical Silence HDD cooler on it. It will be completely silent.
DVD player:
Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-112DBK IDE, Bulk, Zwart
Still one of the best in burning DVD content on the market. I am not sure how much noise it will make. But i saw already in MediaPortal a feature to reduce the speed of the player. So need to figure out how it will work
Digital Tuners:
Digital Everywhere FloppyDTV DVB-S2 HDTV MCE
Digital Everywhere FloppyDTV DVB-C MCE
I have also a Dreambox satellite receiver and maybe someone can help me setup cardsharing within MediaPortal?
So to prevent to pay for two subscription and two cards. Any help will be welcome.
This setup will be connected to a Panasonic 107 cm (42") plasma screen and will replace my standalone DVD player and Digital Cable receiver. Hopefully I do not regret to buy this setup, because i prefer a crystal clear picture quality. We will see what it will bring.
In the future I am thinking of buying a extra touch screen. OrigenAE is working on a wireless touchscreen. So i can setup dual screen configuration. On my plasma screen to watch TV and wireless touchscreen to browse the internet. Is by the way MP working well with dual screen configuration? anybody tested this?
Hope you all like my configuration. Any remarks or ideas are welcome.
