I have almost finished a fully working and fully functional mp htpc
Just two things i need to know:
Does anyone have the powerdvd 8 codecs working without h/w accelertaion because on my system dvds randomly stop repsonding and on tv i get the issue where the picture is frozen but sound continues... I have the powerdvd 7 codecs already but i find the 8 codecs give a better picture...
My other question which is the main one is when you change subtitle stream on a dvd is there a way to show you what language you are changing to... I can change the stream with my remote but all that comes up is a black bar at the top for a second and then it disapears... Neither are major issues but they are both thing i would like to get working...

I have used PDVD7\8 with RC3 on XPsp3 using EVR as renderer, which means you are running without hardware acceleration and have superb playback, you do get dxva with Vista+EVR only.

Subtitles, just do not use

i did try evr as renderer but it got alot of tearing whilst watching live tv
