I'm a BeyondTV/Media user and I've been giving a peak to MP for a while now. The open platform and the community are really appealing plus the progress made here is very interesting. I was curious if there are any BeyondTV migrants here and if I can get some opinions on if/why I should switch over to MP from BTV. What can MP do for me, with respect to TV viewing, scheduled recordings and library management that BTV can't or doesn't do as well? Also, does the DVD library in MP work as well as the DVD Library plugin in Beyond Media? Thanks for your responses in advance.

I'm actually migrating from Beyond Media.

It this point, nothing could pull me away from BeyondTV, it's too good.

So if "nothing could pull me away from BeyondTV" why are you migrating to MP?

And why the need to bump a thread thats over a year old? :)

Mediaportal and beyondtv are a natural combination...like chocolate and peanut butter. While beyondtv (running as a service) does a great job of recording all my shows media portal is the front end everyone see's that I use to play movies...dvd's.....check my torrent status in utorrent....display the shows I download via torrent that I can't get in beyondtv (I'm "over the air" only)....it also plays all my music and upscales the sound to use my 5 speaker surround....beyondtv is a link on my menu and if I click on it mp gets minamized and beyondtv opens....I watch shows and/or do what I need then when I close beyondtv I'm back in mp.

Quite frankly...if media portal would read the .avi.chapters file from beyondtv or the edl file from comskip I wouldn't even go into beyondtv to view the shows it recorded..I'd just watch them in mp. (I use comskip instead of smartchapters using a post processing bat file that gets called when a recording completes)

MP actually reads the txt files produced by comskip, so that side works fine with the right config.

Thanks for the info...I added my beyondtv video dir into MP and enabled the "skip commercials if comskip txt file available" in the config and it does appear to do that..the problem I ran into was that the .avi's that play fine in beyondtv are playing with the audio and video not in sync in mediaportal so still stuck playing them in beyondtv...oh well...one step forward, two steps back. ;)
