I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask this question, but I havent a clue where to ask it.

Just installed RC4, working well. Now Im ready to jump onto the TV Server bandwagon and stream TV around the house to another HTPC.

So, I gotta buy a TV Tuner card. Inevitable question: which one.

I looked around on the site, and everything I find is circa mid 2006 about TV tuner cards. So, hopped over to newegg to see what cards are the most popular. K-World seems to be well represented, but never heard of them. The Hauppage are easily 2x the price, but feel more comfortable since I recognize the name from years ago.

But for $29, how can I go wrong with this card (that is, as long as it works with MP :)). If you have any other recommendations, please enlighten me.

BTW, I live in the Philippines, so the whole DTV transition has no effect on me for at least 5-10 years :)

    Thanks for any insight,

    Joe

Well, the big question is if it has hardware mpec encoding of software encoding?

Software encoding cards are much more resource-hungry and therefore everyone will suggest a hardware encoding card.

Kworld & Vstream version work perfectly fine. I have both Kworld 100 & Vstream vrsions installed. They both work fine individually but for some reason if both are installed at the same time MP only recognises 1 of them.

Thank you munklefish - 2 followups please? Do you know if the Kworlds are hardware encoding? ie, do you get lots of CPU activity when using it, or does it seem to do its thing "on board"? Also, what is vstream - a different company, or a different model from kworld?

V-Stream is just a different branding of Kworld 100 cards.

Must be hardware coz v low CPU on my system, even with 3 -4 cards installed.
