Sorry if this has been posted before but I don't really know what's actually happening with this issue.

My htpc uses an i3 cpu (integrated graphics) on a Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H mobo and I'm on windows 7. I'm connecting to my lcd tv via hdmi cable.

I've been noticing that if I leave my htpc long enough for it to switch off the display (after screensaver) then shake the mouse to wake it up again, it sometimes comes back on not exactly the same quality as I left it. The problem is mostly noticeable on any text, it's like bad aliasing on the text and makes them appear overly sharp (and not in a good way). It's not as noticeable in images (thank god) but if you look closely you can see the same jagged aliasing around the edges of the content. So far I've only been able to fix this by restarting my htpc.

This is the only way I really know how to describe it so hopefully you get the picture. If anyone has come across this before or might know what setting to check let me know.

Thanks

Could be that the TV is switching from a pixel mapping mode eg. Just Scan (samsung) to 16:9 mode. Or possibly you are getting overscan, check CCC.

found it, the refresh rate was set to 59hz in my graphics settings, after fiddling with almost everything in my settings I accidentally found that it fixed it when I changed this to 50hz (but I would have thought it would be based on my graphics setting at startup anyway unless it somehow changes the settings at some point). I'm assuming my tv natively runs at 50hz at startup and uses 59hz (my graphics settings) after sleep mode. Will keep an eye on this to see if it actually does this but least I know 50hz fixes the problem. Thanks for the help, my tv is Toshiba

In my system, the Automatic Refresh Rate Changer set my screen to 59Hz, which made a huge negative impact on the image quality. Disabling it did the trick.

could you tell me where you found that setting?

There's definitely something changing mine. I set it to 50hz or 60hz, and every now and again I'll go back into my setting and the refresh rate is set back to 59hz. It doesn't bother me too much because least I know I can fix it by changing my refresh rate back to what I want. But it would be good to find the setting that keeps changing it.

MP Config -> General -> Dynamic Refresh rate changer

But I doubt it's setting it to 59hz, usually it would only do 50,60hz +/- 24hz

I'm pretty sure it's disabled by default

oh I thought he was referring to somewhere in windows in general. Haven't been able to nail down when exactly it happens, it'll happen sometimes after waking the computer back up or if I open a avi rip in full screen. Like its detecting whats best for what's on the screen and sets it to that. Just seems weird that it's 59hz all the time.

Anyways it only takes me 2 seconds to open my graphics properties and change it so its not a huge inconvenience.
