    Hi guys,

I am considering another small client (after being disappoint with my existing Zotac ION2 I am wary of these small low power units).

    Has anyone tried/using a Shuttle XS35GS V3 htpc?

I am nervous around the CPU, GPU and intenal bus speeds. I had great fun with my ION2 system and latency/DPC issues. :(

But the size and the fact its passive appeal to me.

I am swaying to a physically larger system based on a streacom passive case with an AMD A6 CPU (HD6530 GPU)

I'm using a XS35GT V1. Like you, I had latency trouble, but I eventually overcame it & it's running really well now.

During the frustration with the XS35GT, I got an Arctic MC001 to try. Great PQ, but just could not get it to do smooth playback without dropped frames. The XS35GS V3 has better CPU & GPU than that, but my concern is that it still (I assume) has PCIe x1 graphics (due to the Atom architecture) & I'm not sure if AMD/ATI are as good at working around that as Nvidia.

I'm considering one of these: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_CPU_on_Board/E45M1I_DELUXE/ in one of these: http://www.antec.com/product.php?id=705289&fid=5022033 - no vector adaptive deinterlacing, but still good PQ by all reports.

    Hi there,

    Things have progressed.... :)

I have now got my ION2 working ok (although it can not cope with IFC), bar that I have smooth playback

I have also built a client based upon the AMD A6 and streacom case (completely silent/passive) - this has no issues at all (apart from I use wireless and occassionaly get a dropped frame, but I will be changing to wired LAN as soon as the weather is nice for long enough to get outside and run a cable!)

You're spot on about IFC - you need a reasonable spec machine to use it smoothly.

The A6 system sounds good. Can it do vector adaptive deinterlacing?

I'm hoping the logic behind IFC may change (was discussed), where it does not continually check frames every x seconds, but instead only starts at the begining of playback.

Yep VA seems to be working ok - need to more tests though :)

    Hi Jay,

A bit of a late response, but ... As you may recollect I have two clients (Zotac ID41's) running ION2 - both have IFC working well, (I just disable the HD part of it) although my much higher spec HTPC in my lounge will not run IFC at all - just really bad playback on that, although I may be wrong I just blame the ATI graphics card in that unit. I had to do so much messing around with the codecs etc on the Zotac units I cannot remember what I did.. God help me if i have to reinstall !

    Hi there,

I'm now running IFC on my ION2 with no HD support (same as you) :)

IFC works fine on my other machines (with more powerful graphics), but it should still have its logic/code optimized to minimize the impact on displaying content.
