Aspect ratio in normal mode (1 Viewer)

Hi!

I have a problem. Someone else has asked a question about this in another forum on this site but has not yet gotten an answer. Perhaps I will have more luck in this forum.

I have a 16:9 flat screen TV but most programmes are still broadcasted in 4:3. MP seem to have trouble displaying this format correctly. In normal mode, which seems the most fitting choice when watching 4:3 programmes, the image is slightly horizontally compressed. Not much but enough to be clearly noticable. Channel logos look a bit strange as do people since they look skinnier than they should. The aspect ratio seems to work fine in stretch mode. I don't like any of the other modes so I haven't looked at them much. All aspect ratios looks just fine in MCE which should indicate that the problem is located in MP and not some other hardware or software.

I really hope someone has a solution to this problem.

    Hi,
I don't have a fix, but this is how i did.
My graphic card allows me to over scan the desktop (res. set to 800x600 + over scan)
& then in MP Home -> Settings -> Screen Calib. -> Screen Calib. I have not touched the Top Left over scan & the bottom one, just the Pixel Ratio Adjustment so it looks like my TV screen (1,15).
In all fullscreens like TV, DVD, Movies i use zoom as default. This gives me a compromise picture in all cases & I can live with that until i have a flat screen....

    Regards
    Roy

Oh, I get so annoyed with myself when I miss such an easy and actually very obvious solution. I had of course already calibrated MP but it never occured to me that I could calibrate it slightly "incorrectly" to counter the aspect ratio problem. The problem does now seem to have gone away. Thanks!!!

Since I just have bought a flat screen (32" 16:9), I have just realized the problem you are describing. Soo, just so I get this right you kept your original screen resolution (in my case 1360x768) and only altered the screen calibiration in MP?

Yes, the only change I made was to calibrate MP slightly "off". In the calibration there's a sqare that one is supposed to adjust to have equally long sides. I adjusted it to be slightly rectangular and it solved the problem with 4:3 aspect ratio. I haven't used the 16:9 aspect ratio since then so I'm not sure whether there's a noticable difference there too (thought I thought it looked fine before).
