I'm have trouble getting this setup, anyone tried and successfully using remote wonder?

I've selected X10-ATI from the config page, however have the ATI drivers installed. Not sure what the learning does?

Any help, really can't afford to purchase a new remote so would be great if I can get this working :D

I use an old ATI remote wonder and it works perfect.

Yo have to turn ATI remote of in windows tray and disable autostart though. Otherwise you get double actions on every button you press inside MP.
No need to do any "learning" with software. It works as it is. It take some time for one and other to learn what all buttons do though :)

    New batteries?

Thanks for that Radioman, that is very good news for me indeed :) I did have the problem with double actions and after reading the mediaportal manual I disabled the ATI software from starting up. After that some actions work fine, for example scrolling up and down, play, stop etc. However others drive me crazy, for example getting back to a main menu from a submenu, resuming normal play after fastforward/rewind (I can't get it to stop fast forwarding once it's started), DVD menu etc

Out of interest, which driver version do you use? Do you use the ATI driver (I installed version 3.0.4), however, in the MP configuration page it talks about using the snapstream drivers. Can you please tell me which drivers you use to get this working?

Lastly, how did you work out the mapping in the RW? Was it just trial and error? Thanks for all the help :D

Oh BTW, I'm using rechargeable batteries at the moment, I'll try with new alkaline batteries and see if that makes any difference :)

    Hi bitsnbytes

I'm not at my MP PC now but you can figure out most buttons if you look at the assignment in the "learning" tab. I'm a bit slow so I also have to "worn" it in with trial and error :)

I also have a bit slow response when FF, RW and then push play again. Don't think it's the remote though.

I use ATI latest drivers. I had some issues getting the other recomended X10 driver to work. If you use ATI you also have the possability to do a setup outside MP.

If you find a way to start the ATI driver with commandline trough batchfile, outside MP, please tell me. I want to use the same remote when I'm playing Bluray with Power DVD as external player from inside MP. I must find a way to toggle the outside driver so that we don't get the double actions inside MP when Power DVD player is closed and MP takes control again.

You could take the other approach - route all the remote commands via EventGhost, then you can have 'exclusive' remote setups for each application (MP, PowerDVD, MPC-HC etc) - see EventGhost

(Warning - the EventGhost initial learning curve is steep, but once you've realized how it works and what it can do it becomes one of those 'how did I manage without it ?' programs).

A steep learning curve? ...
It looks promising but do I have to disable the remote inside MP first?
Then install the message plugin and then remap the remote inside MP as the description says on the message plugin page, right?
Or maybe it works right away when also adding the MP plugin thats comes with EventGhost?

Some hints to kick us in the right direction Tony ;)

Then I guess I have to fiddle the usual way.

    I'll try....

You need to disable the remote inside MP (otherwise things will get confused....)

Next make sure EventGhost is receiving commands from the remote - when you press a button an event (a 'lightning bolt') should appear in the log window.

If this is working OK, next create a macro (a 'cog wheel') in the right-hand window, and drag-n-drop an event from the log window to the macro - you should now have a trigger event in the macro. Next add an 'action' (right-click -> add action) - this could be one from the MP plug-in, or a keystroke emulation (add action -> window -> emulate keystrokes), for example. Note you can have multiple trigger events and a series of actions in a macro to do more complex things.

Hopefully this should get you started (and don't forget to save the configuration file.....)

I don't remember having to do much/any configuration of the MP message plug-in.

The ability to have different remote mappings for different applications is usually done by using the 'exclusive enable a folder/macro' action - each 'exclusive' folder contains all the macros for that application, but only one folder is enabled at a time.

I use the ati original software..there is a mediaportal plugin....however if you do this the play, stop, pause etc keys don't work.........so what I did was enable the remote in mediaportal but I deleted ALL the keys but the handful I wanted to assign..so numbers and A-F buttons are programmed via the ati software in system tray (which means it also works fine for beyondtv which controls my recordings and is a menu choice in MP) and the play, pause etc works because it's defined in media portal.....everything works. Was that clear as mud?

Thanks Radioman :) I'll fiddle with it as well, I don't mind the trial and error part, just that I just didn't want to bang my head against a brick wall if it is just not possible. Thanks to you I can continue my fiddling process :D

BTW, did you download and install the mediaportal plugin for RW from the mediaportal website? I have installed this, however since mediaportal recommends that you disable any ATI software, I'm unsure if this step is required at all

Also, is it possible for you to mail me your keymap.xml file? That way I can see what mapping you use and configure in a similar manner

Yes, that will be cool, I'll give that a try and will certainly update you if I get anything. Although with my slow brain I'm sure you will crack it much before me ;) One way I thought about it was that, perhaps keep the ATI software running all the time, however, keep one one key recognized by the ATI software which then minimizes mediaportal and switches the RW plugin to a more "enriched" plugin. Never tried this so not sure if this possible at all. There is a software called uice which perhaps might help. I did come across this key mapper for ATI RW which might help

Thanks again for all the help, much appreciated :D

Oops after my previous post my page automatically refreshed with posts from famewolf and owlsroost :D

I guess what I said in my previous is kind of similar to what famewolf suggested i.e. keep one of the special keys A-F which minimizes MP or do anything else you want.

I like the EventGhost idea by owlsroost and I'll certainly give that a try. Do you know if this mechanism works reliably? i.e. is there any lag between the key press and the action actually happening?

Really useful stuff, thanks guys :D Now where would I be without the forums

It's reliable and there's no lag.
