After recently getting re-introduced to Media Portal (I've not played with it in a year or so), I have installed version 1.0.0.0 RC4. I'm running the following hardware:

ATI All-in-Wonder 9600XT
TwinHan 1020 DVB-S
Pentium 4 2.4GHz (overclocked to 2.6)
GigaByte GA-8IG1000MR (rev. 2) motherboard (Intel 865G chipset)

and software:

Media Portal 1.0.0.0 RC4
Windows XP, SP3 - with all updates installed.

Right now I'm having trouble with over-the-air TV reception on the All-in-Wonder (AiW) card, but since my Free-to-Air (FTA) DVB-S card is getting me TV signals, I don't want to focus on the AiW problems just yet. My real concern is getting the Remote Wonder II (RW2) working.

I am still running the ATI drivers for the RW2 - otherwise the hardware in Device Manager - namely "ATI Remote Wonder Controller", "ATI Remote Wonder II Input Device" and "ATI Remote Wonder II Pointing Device" - show as "device driver missing". However, I've exited from the RW2 program in the System Tray, and set it so it does not automatically re-start. -- I have also tried uninstalling the "ATI Remote Wonder 3.04" software (which removes the device drivers) from "Add or Remove Programs" in Control Panel.

I have installed the recommended X10 driver from the MediaPortal Configuration program "Remote" settings. It is the downloaded driver from the Configuration page. X10nets.exe shows-up in Task Manager and MediaPortal Configuration says that the X10 Driver is installed.

When I run Media Portal, I get no response from any keys on the RW2 remote. If anyone can assist, it would be appreciated.

i have the same remote and I've got it working under xp and vista, so rest assured it will work :)

Load the ati remote wonder program and run the remote test (going from memory here, but I think its where you program the RF channel of the remote/software), see if it works at that level first. I suspect that since you are seeing device driver missing the driver isnt loaded/loading properly. Try running windows update it may detect the hardware and install the driver. Otherwiser remove everything and try installing again.

fillerguy;

I had the ATI software working and the test runs fine (yes, it's where the remote's ID is set). Unfortunately, that didn't fix anything. I then set the Media Portal remote settings to my remote's ID, just to make sure that wasn't my problem. Still not working.

Looks like my next step is to completely remove my ATI software and try re-installing everything. I've been wanting to completely re-build my PC anyway (it's a real mess with all the installs and un-installs I've done over the last few years). It may be a few days before I get back here with results... what with Christmas being so close.

Thanks for your suggestions, and Merry Christmas.

Re-Installed, but no luck

So over the last few days I have:

- completely re-built my computer (i.e., formatted hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP, SP3 with all updates)
- Installed the latest Catalyst drivers (version 8.11 - 12-Nov-2008) for my All-in-Wonder (AIW) video card
- Installed the most recent ATI Remote Wonder II (RW2) software (version 3.04 - although the "About" for it says "3.4")
- Installed MediaPortal 1.0.0.0

With my RW2 software running in the system tray (i.e., bottom right of the screen, down by the Window's clock), I can use the mouse features of the RW2 in any program.

In the MediaPortal - Configuration program, Remote, X10 tab I have check marks beside:
- Use X10 Remote
- ATI model

All other settings are blank on the X10 tab.

I have also installing the Firefly_drvs.zip that is linked from the X10 tab. After installing that, I rebooted. I've tried MediaPortal again both with and without the RW2 software running in the system tray. MediaPortal does not respond to the RW2 except as a simple mouse, but then only with the RW2 software running in the system tray. -- The Firefly_drvs.zip did nothing, although I now have X10nets.exe running in Task Manager.

If anyone can offer advice on what I should try next, it would be appreciated.
