Since Moving Pictures 0.7.0 I'm experiencing audio hickups while playing back any type of content in Mediaportal.

I already filed an issue about this, where further information can be found, but the forum is probably a more obvious place to find other users who could confirm this.

With a clean installation of Mediaportal 1.0.1 and Moving Pictures 0.7.2 (no skins, no other plugins) I get regular "crackling" sounds while playing back any type of content (MP3, FLAC audio, xvid, h.264, quicktime) be it music files or videos. The hickups even occur if the content is not actually played back with moving pictures. Playing MP3/FLAC files using the MP default "My Music" screens will have this effect as well.

Disabling Moving Pictures in the MP configuration will make the sound crackling/hickups disappear immediately.
As you can see in the issue tracker, I tried to track this back and the problem seems to start appearing in Moving Pictures 0.7.0 while 0.6.6 is performing fine.

I'm suspecting, that Moving Pictures is steadily performing operations in the background that are in some way interfering with Mediaportals engine, causing Mediaportal to stop with whatever it is doing for only very brief amounts of time but causing noticable playback issues. To make it clear, I do not think that Moving Pictures is having problems with codecs or playback or so. I think it's more on the system level, in some way that the Mediaportal thread gets locked by activities that moving pictures performs in the background.

With 0.7.2 and MP 1.0.1 the crackling occurs exactly every 5 seconds for me, so it's really obvious and noticable. Does anyone else notice something similar?

I just posted a reply on the issue in the tracker. The drive check is on a 5 second timer so that would be my best guess for now.. we can set you up with a special dll to see if that is causing the issue for you.

Would be glad to test a version with more debugging stuff enabled, or maybe even one where the drive check is disabled on purpose to narrow the problem down, as I really like the plugin and would not give it up lightly.

Disabling the Disk Monitor solves the issue for me.
Many thanks for figuring this out and providing a fast fix!
