Hi,

New convert to the MediaPortal experience and enjoying my initial findings, bar one small niggle.

I've got new Music and Movies to add to my existing database tables, and understand have the following options to display them within MP

1. Exit MP, Access MP Config and rescan both folders to database

2. Use the 'Shares' view.

I'd prefer to use my own custom views, and so would ideally avoid (2). (1) is a pain too.

Is there an option 3, whereby I can have MP autoscan my folders and add to their respective database tables. From this I would be presented with the files and can update image, etc from Amazon and IMDB as I choose.

For example, I scanned on install with one artist present in my music folder, and the database duly provided these albums in all views. I then added a second artist but didn't access the config to rescan. I can see the new albums in 'Shares' but not in any other view.

I intend ripping my CDs via WMP as this syncs with my MP3 player for work, so each time I load MP there may be new music or movies to be added.

Hopefully a kind expert can point me to the right config change or plugin(s) to achieve this goal.

:D

In Media Portal Configuration under Music - Music Database, there is an option, "Auto-update DB on changes in share", which is supposed to do this "on-the-fly". Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work as I expect it to. It seems to find new music files added to the share, but doesn't notice existing files which have changed. In case anyone who can help notices this thread, I attach a config logfile, which includes a DB scan after approx. 1 month of auto-update.

There is also a process plugin called "Music Share Watcher" it is part of mediaportal default installation.
