Summary:
Auto shut-down at the end of a recording.

Description:
Occasionally I want to record something that goes on into the wee small hours of the night but don't necessarily want to stay up till the end so that I can shut the pc down and turn everything off. I know I can just leave the PC running all night safely but it's not very green and I don't want to waste (or pay for) 7 hours or so of electricity whilst the PC is there doing nothing.

It would be great to have a function in advanced record that was along the lines of 'shut the PC down when this recording is complete'.

Not sure how complex this would be to do, but fingers crossed.

Loving the work by the way, MP is fantastic!

Using TVServer and have powerscheduler enabled, this should and does happen for me automatically.

Hi,

I didn't see that plugin! From what it tells me though, the only options seem to be 'suspend', 'hibernate' and 'stay on'. There doesn't seem to be a 'turn off' (I don't want the PC running at all over night). To be fair, I haven't played with the settings yet but will do so later and hope it works,

There is no turn off, if this happens it would kill any future recordings set in the schedules, also you would have to wait for windows to boot up.

Most people are happy with the small amount of electricity that standby\hibernate uses.

PVR-Scheduler does have this ability, it will also use the bios chip for storing on\off times, but i have never tried it myself.

I see the reasoning. Apart from not actually being able to make it work last night, I really do want a 'turn off after the last recording of the day' type function. I'll have a look around the web for some sort of 'shutdown scheduler'

Using hibernate your pc will draw zero power while it's off, hibernate suspends a copy of your ram memory to disk, allowing your pc to boot quicker the next time it's switched on.
Standby only uses a small amount of power to maintain the state of your memory, everything else in the system is switched off.

If your motherboard supports it, then powerscheduler should be able to wake the pc from hibernate or even a completely off state to start a recording as it's ultimately the bios that wakes the pc, since no code is actually executing while the pc is in any of the sleep states.

Have a look at PowerOff if you want to manage your shutdown schedule outside of MP.
