I think some sort of progressbar will be needed for the auto-update.

The update took quite some time so that I nearly broke off the process, because I couldn´t see anywhere that something is happening in the background.

I know this now but new users might expiirience the same thing.

But the auto-update is another great feature for MP. Congrats!

I think the update process is like the bitorrent downloads. Will collect the data, when it gets a chance, and only update when it has the full file. If you interrupt the download, it will resume the next time you run MP. No loss of downloaded bits.... A background task, that I think is much like windows updates...
    Personally, I like the concept...

I agree. My Laptop never upgraded and there was no indication to tell me where it was in the update process.

I left it for 2hrs and nothing happened.

I cut off my upgrade because nothing happend (I thought) and had to reinstall MP because each time I hit the "yes" button, and it automaticly switched over to the "no" button :)

aproxamently how long will this update take? I have been waiting for 2 hours.

Depending on how busy the server is and your connection speed/through-put, it can take from minutes to overnight.
You can interrupt the process at any time, and restart it later just by opening and closing MediaPortal.
Also, if you are behind a firewall, or router, you may have a blocked port.

microsoft does not offer this option in the code we use from them.

Depending on your cpu usage mp will download.
We will use the idle time of the cpu.

It's the same system as autoupdate for windows, when the system has time it will download to not bother the user with a temporary slow system.

We agree that things can be improved, but for now this is how it is.

I have 2 systems running Mediaportal.
Do I need to update both of them or I can just copy some file from one to another ?
BTW I am impressed with the progress of MEDIAPORTAL has made during the last 2 months.
Mediaportal is probably the best all-around Frontend/PVR/Mediacenter.
If only I could have timeshifting with soffware based TV card :(
