I was so impressed when i first installed media portal. I loved the simplicity and the idea of having all my media files so easily accessible in such a neat, orgainized interface. StreamedMP blew me away....
I also love mymovies plug in and its ability to auto fetch cover art and info but ive experienced a problem. Mymovies has fetched the info and backdrops for all of my movies but a few. The info is there, and in some cases so is the dvd cover, but the backdrop is missing. When i check the target folder for backdrop images, the image is there and in proper resolution, but just will not display within mediaportal.

Any suggestions on how I can correct this?

I am not sure how much they will help in this siutation, but could you post your log files while running in debug mode? (You can turn on debug mode in the MediaPortal config itself).

Also which movies are having the problem?

ok, i will try to post the log file.
The two movies im having problems with are pretty popular ones.. .Hancock and SuperBad.
Is there not a way that i can manually change the background picture?

You can manually specify the path to a background image in the movie manager in the config screen. Can you go into the config and check the "Backdrop Path" setting for the movies that aren't working right? They should be populated and if you cut and paste the path into your address bar in a web browser, it should pop up with the backdrop. If it does not you may try updating the path to the backdrop you found in your movie backdrop folder...

It is possible this is related to this issue though:

Well, see, thats the problem. I have checked the path
C:/documents and settings/application data/media portal/my movies/movies/thumbs/hancock.jpg (or something like that, im at a different computer right now)
and the picture is there, (along with the others that work) it just wont show up inside mediaportal

Hi I have something similar, Superbad is in the correct folder C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\thumbs\MovingPictures\Backdrops\FullSize and has ben downloaded and has the correct name {Superbad} [1948879541].jpg. It opens fine in any graphics program but just shows as a black background in MP. Any ideas?

Thanks

Are you sure that's not the path for My Movies and not Moving Pictures?

I am pretty sure I know the problem, in fact I think I fixed this yesterday. o_O The fix I did I thought was only needed for covers, but it makes a lot of sense if this occurred with backdrops as well. Tomorrow I will test to make sure this change fixes the problem you are describing, although I think this fix will have to wait for 0.7 to be released.

For the time being I think you should be able to work around the issue by manually downloading the backdrop and overwriting the existing one in your backdrop folder. Basically Moving Pictures is saving the backdrop in an improper file format.

what is correct naming standard for putting in a custom backdrop?
my Hancock backdrop is also not showing up, I know you can just replace it with a new pic same name
but what about a movie that never had a backdrop to begin with?
I guess I'm not understanding the naming convention in the advanced options

Sorry. You have two options. The easiest is to name the file <imdb#>.jpg. So for example lets look at Back to the Future. If you look at the URL for the IMDB page it ends in the IMDB ID number tt0088763. This will also be listed in the Movie Manager on the Moving Pictures config screen. So if you dropped a file named tt0088763.jpg in your Backdrops folder where all your other backdrops are saved, it will automatically be attached to Back to the Future.

You second option is to drop a file named any way you like in the folder, and then manually entering the path for that file in the Movie Manager in the config.

Sorry I know this is not ideal. If anything else major comes up and we create a 0.6.6 release, I will include a fix for this as well.
