My System = Bag O' Dung Hi All Thanks for the replies. Let me please explain and perhaps clarify...my rants are with my system and not the tremendous amount of effort and work that every developer and user puts in for free. I fully and totally appreciate the work that has been and continues to be put into this product, if I didnt why would I have been using ot for so long ? There aren't many things for free in life so why would I not fully support such works. My frustration (yes other Marcus you are so right, this really is how I feel) is with my system and my system only. As from my initial post I simply tried to play a dvd and hey presto its all gone breasts up. I have no automatic updates live (microsoft, general software, anti virus) all are downloaded as and when I choose. After years of using pc's this just seems to work for me and such I am gunna stick with it. This is why my new laptop is running XP and not Vista, I know XP and it works so why change it. If you look through my posts you will see that I have had issue after issue (other Marcus - we have posted to each other regarding these and you have helped me tremendously) and thought that I finally had my system and MP in a working state - " If it anit broke dont fix it " really applies to all things PC. MP was working fine for me and although I am not using it to it's full potential it was doing what I needed/wanted from a media system. I have dabbled with svn's yet have found, without exception, that they cause more problems than they solve for MY system. It is apparrent from the raft of posts that they work for a lot of people yet many others seem to have issues with them, as do I. I have been considering RC4 yet as the system was stable at the time I decided to wait for the impending new release of MP especially as there were several posts with issues for those that have used RC4. So if I have offended anyone please accept my sincere apologies. If my initial post appeared sarcastic I again apologise as that was not my intention. I value this software and all the help I have received with it. I am just bemused as to how playing a dvd (which is not something I do very often) causes complete meltdown and stops MP from even booting up. I live with a complete technophobe and have been 'introducing ' MP to her yet when even basic tasks are tried I get issues that put it back to square one. If anyone is still talking to me [ :ooops: ] and they know a way of reinstalling without loosing my configuration, thumbs etc can they let me know how to do this as I spent an entire evening trying to resolve this all to no avail. If Paranoid D' is correct this should fix it and judging from his numerous other posts he knows this system well, very well. Thanks for all the replies. Marcus (D)
