Basic Question: What is MediaPortal 1 and TV Sever? (1 Viewer)

Hi,

As per TV-Server/HowItWorks - MediaPortal Manual Documentation I need the following for a single seat installation.

Single Seat Setup

In a single seat setup, the TV-Server application and MediaPortal are installed on the same PC.

Requirements

* Microsoft SQL Server Express or MySQL 5
* MediaPortal TV-Server
* MediaPortal
* MediaPortal TV-Server Client Plugin
* TV-Cards

Does MediaPortal above refer to MediaPortal 1? Or, is MediaPortal 1 a combination of the above?

Sorry for such basic questions but then there is so much documentation on this site that I do not know what is the relevant manual/guide for my requirements.

Mediaportal is the actual front end - the user interface that lets you play music, videos, view pictures, etc.

TV Server, which is included in the single click install, is a service that runs in the background that manages tv cards, streaming, and recording.


The Mediaportal 1 install asks a set of questions, and based on your answers will install the appropriate pieces needed from the list of required software. (except, of course, the Tv Tuner cards, since they are hardware)

Thanks for your response. I have made some incremental progress but I have run into one problem.

TV Server configuration recognizes my analog TV tuner card (Winfast PxPVR2200 Tuner). I am even able to watch and listen TV Video and Audio on the composite input by clicking on the 'Preview' button in 'TV Channels'.

Unfortunately, MediaPortal Configuration does not list the TV tuner in the Television | Capture Card list. When I try to add the capture card I get the message "No video capture card(s) were found, you won't be able to configure a capture card".

How can I make MediaPortal Configuration detect the tuner card? I am using Vista Ultimate 32 bit.

I would greatly appreciate any help.

It sounds like you did not map the TV channels to you TV-card in the TV-Server configuration program. You find this in the TV section under mapping in the TV server configuration/setup.

You do not need to set up your tuner card in MediaPortal Configuration if you have it set up in TV Server Comfiguration (as it should be). The Client plugin will handle that communication for you.
