Hi guys,

I stumbled across this great bit of software just a few days ago and it seems exactly what i am looking for, but i need your expertise, im not that great when it comes to computers and i would say i was a bit of a novice.

This is my situation.

I have 2 PCs;

BEDROOM:
Sony VAIO VGC-V2S
3.2GHz Intel Pentium 4; Asus Intel 865 motherboard; 512MB PC3200 SDRAM; 250GB Maxtor hard disk; Sony DW-D56A DVD writer; 128MB nVidia GeForce Go 5700 graphics; 20in 1,280 x 768 TFT; V.92 modem; 10/100 Ethernet; 802.11b/g WLAN; 4 x USB 2; 2 x FireWire; 1 x Type II PC Card slot; S-Video; Windows XP Home;

and LIVING ROOM:
Dell OptiPlex SX270
Intel Pentium 4 2.4 GHz; RAM 2gb; StorageHard Drive 40 GB; Integrated Intel Extreme graphics 64 MB; Sound card Integrated AC97; Microsoft Windows XP MCE2005

BEDROOM:
I installed MP V1.0 RC2 last night.
I can not get the tv to work from within MP, it works fine in vaiozone but i dont even get the option to scan for channels in MP. Is my tv tuner too old? Is there somthing im doing wrong? if the card is completely incompatible then will buying a usb tv tuner do the job and if so which one is recommended. I can not buy an internal card as my pc is is not upgradeable. Everything else i tried seemed to work.

LIVING ROOM:
I installed MP V1.0 RC2 a week ago, i do not have a tv card on this pc, my problem with this pc is that when i go to play a film it shuts down my MP and is this a codec problem, the films play fine in WMP and VLC.

I really would appreciate any help on this, this seems like a fantastic bit of kit and i would love to get the most out of it.

Thanks in advance.

Nin.

The bedroom PC sounds like it's a problem with MP not recognizing or not supporting the tuner card. But in your hardware list above, you didn't mention what tuner you are using.

See Supported_TVCards - MediaPortal Wiki Documentation for supported TV cards. There are a few others that work or can be made to work, but going with something from this list is the best way to go. If you want to use the same tuner card for both PCs, you may consider TV-Server instead of the built-in client. (Can't tell from your description if you are using the built-in TV functionality, or the TV Server.)

For your living room PC, you'll have to post logs. When it crashes, the MP Test Tool should open up and let you zip up the logs easily. Post 'em here, and someone can probably help out.
