Hi there

I have been using MP RC1 quite happily now for several months and was wondering on peoples thoughts on the benefits of upgrading to RC3. I would presume (hope) RC3 would have less bugs etc but is there any real world benefits?

I don't use TV-Server at the moment but maybe in the future

Also while I am here a question regarding backing up prior to the install, I have read this here UpdateingMediaPortal - MediaPortal Wiki Documentation (i will forgive the mis spelling of updating :D ) and it says about backing up the MP folder under Program Files and the application data under Documents and Settings etc, which is fine but then it only mentions restoring the application data and no mention of the Program Files backup.

Can anyone that has done this enlighten me on the best method of restoring all config, database and plugins and skins.

Any feedback appreciated :D

Has no one any views on RC3 they would like to share?

I thought someone may let me know the best way to restore a backup at least

May have to give XBMC a try to see if it and there forums are more user friendly

Hi,
there is no need of restoring any of the program files for RC3. This is only for the case if you want to go back to the old program in case something is wrong.

For safety (as described in the manual), additionally export your channel settings. So at least you have your channels (including groups, schedules and so on). Anyway, according to my experience you will have to do some adjustments (LNB for example); but this is a work of 5 minutes.

Good luck!

Hi Alfred thanks for the reply,

What about skins and plugins used on the previous install surely they will need to be copied across to the new install?

Have now done the upgrade all seems ok after copying all the application data back :D

One thing I have noticed on startup of MP it sits on waiting for start of tv server, for a few minutes then loads ok it never did this on the RC1. As I don't use the tv server I uninstalled it which obviously cured it.

Has anyone else noticed this and is there a cure for this as will be wanting to use the tv server shortly

you can chose advance installation and chose not to install tvserver.

if u want it back, i guess u just need to reinstall.
