I'm finally decided to replace the qam tuner in my 46" Samsung LCD with an HDHomerun and MP.
While I'm impressed with the power of MP, the default settings going from the setup guide don't give me as good as quality while watching SD TV as the QAM tuner does.

Most HD content (1080i/720p) looks fine, but the SD (480p) digital TV looks much worse.
AT the moment I have MPEG-2 video decoder set to MPV Decoder.

While fooling around with FFDshow looks like fun, I'd really prefer to utilize the DXVA capabilities of the on board Nividia 9400. This is on a Vista32 machine with a 3Ghz C2D.

Any suggestions?

M$ codec is a lot better, especially for aspect ratio.

PowerDVD is the recommended DXVA codec, as it is upto date, unlike the Nvidia, but besides cpu use is no better visually than the M$ codec.

You might want to do some postprocessing with ffdshow raw to get the picture as you wish.

Where can I get the M$ MPEG2 decoder? I use XP SP3. I have an official Vista Home Premium install DVD. Is there a possibility to 'extract' the decoder from this disk?

    Thanks in advance.

Sorry the above quote gives you the answer, my reply was specific to the information given :)

M$ codecs are not freely available :(, there is no way to upgrade these even on MCE2005 version.
