I am setting up a TV3 server that will handle a total of 4 tuners for 3 clients. The tuners are an HDHomerun which will be recording clear QAM from my cable (mostly local HDs) and a PVR500 which will be recording from a digital cable STB and just plain analog cable.

I have available 4-5 320GB SATA drives to use specifically for TV in this server, and I was wondering what would be the best way to allocate them amongst the tuners and the timeshift buffers to maximize performance.

Also, can TV3 pick a harddrive from a pool that is not being used, in order to maximize performance? I played around with MythTV and it does this with their Storage Groups feature and it seemed like a really good idea (but too many other things were better in MP, so I chose it instead).

I don't think it is possible at the moment, but I love the idea!

While we wait for the devs and admins to rule on the idea, you could use juction points to combine your hard drives. See this thread for details (post #1 and #9).
