I quite often leave my lounge HTPC playing music via MP while carrying my laptop into another room and I can't work out what is going to be the best/easiest way for me to then control that computer in the lounge?

Can anyone let me know as it's confused me slightly.

Most of the remote control software runs on iOS/Android/Windows phone. Not sure if you can install the windows phone apps onto your laptop or not. However you could use Teamviewer (free). http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx Teamviewer is sort of like remote desktop, however you don't want to use remote desktop in this sitatuoin, because remote desktop makes you login to the computer, and it also changes the sound device. Teamviewer is much better in this regard. Teamviewer should be exactly what you need.

Not MP specific but I use Unified Remote. Allows controlling any number of computers from my mobile, but you would be working 'blind'.

I also wrote an autmation plugin so that my home automation can control any of the MP installations - that's my radio alarm clock for example.
