Better Subtitles (Off the Video - using blank) (1 Viewer)

Hello, first the MP project is great, no question there. I am a developer myself and i do know how much time and effort is needed for this kind of a project. I do appreciate it, thanks!

My suggestion is to somehow enable displaying subtitles of the video. I use bunch of subtitles, almost every video has a subtitle here.
And it is quite annoying that I have to use vobsub, being a really good piece of software, it has severe limitation, due its nature. A directshow in place filter can do only so much.
Subtitles get over the picture (no body likes loosing a par of the movie, when there is free space below), and, when resolution of a movie is not really good, subtitles look low res and ugly...

I wonder could we get around this somehow, using OSD to show really nice subtitles, or something like...

I do not know if there is a plugin in development or is it planed (i searched and have not found!) if there is sorry for posting...

I have spent some hours in this forum, and I'm pretty sure this has never been mentioned before.

MP is currently in a feature freeze, so little chance that this will be considered by the team.
Being a dev, perhaps you should give it a go?

What would be really great regarding this, is that you could probably do DXVA while using subs.
(Current method breaks DXVA)

Would be a great addition. Right Now, we have to use external programs (Vobsub, ffdshow, etc.) to show subtitles. While this does work, as you say, there are some shortcomings.
One of the biggest one (I think) is not having control over the subtitles from within MP. It is not possible to select a different subtitle, or turn them off altogether.
So a plugin (or built-in feature) that adressed some of these things would be great.

you can put the subtitles out of the video with DirectVobSub also (for videos with cropped black borders). Just enable the "extend to 16:9" option in directVobSub. You can correct font size etc also. just try the settings for better subtitles!

this does not solve the dxva issue of course.

If you use DVob sub (autoloading version) you can switch it on/off from within MediaPortal using your remote (if setup for it):
