Can I ask a question about SAF v6?

I did start reading the 1419-post thread on it, but had to stop after about 16 pages......

What is the difference between the unlocked and locked versions? How do you unlock it, and what does it cost to do so?

And.... with SAF installed and the new native support for Blu-Ray, I'd still need something like AnyDVD HD to play them. Whereas if I just bought PowerDVD 11, I wouldn't need AnyDVD HD.

So, which setup costs less, and is there any great advantage to one or the other?

As far as I know the unlocked version has Cyberlink decoder in use. This allows non-Nvidia GPUs to do HW decoding for H264 / VC1 content. SAF uses LAV video decoder that has hardware decoding support on Nvidia GPUs.

AnyDVD HD (or any other on the fly decrypter) is required still with the MediaPortal's internal blu-ray support.

MediaPortal's internal bluray support is not mature yet (there hasn't yet been even a first beta release). Also looks like BD-J wont be supported at least in any near future.

If you want to have full and hassle free blu-ray support now then the choise is quite easy - pick sone commercial player.

So do you mean, get a commercial Blu-Ray / DVD player package (such as PDVD11) and just run that to play BDs instead of MP?

not instead but on top of mp just for playing your bds. alternative to powerdvd would also be total mediatheatre by arcsoft. for both there is a plugin you can start the player from within mp with remote support and the menus and stuff you would see on a standalone player, too. have a look here. i think it was this one which worked with mp 1.2 ...
