(I think you can also add local fanart images to XMM using the Cover Manager and drag and drop images to the fanart box.) As with any catalog you can use My Films to add more fanart images, but they only display in My Films, again due to differences in the way each catalog stores fanart (there isn't even a standard way in MediaPortal - each plugin does it differently!). However, once you have downloaded them you should be able to manually add them to XMM pretty easily.
