I currently have a htpc that is pretty old and slow (see my specs).

I also just recently bought a new IBUYPOWER corei5 machine that runs mediaportal incredibly smooth.

The problem is the computer and its 2 monitors are upstairs and my tv is in the basement. So for me to hook my pc to my tv I would have to buy a 15 to 20 ft long hdmi cord and also run a 20 ft cable for usb (ir sensor). The only other problem I can see with this would be how would I get MediaPortal to always pop up on the 3rd screen (my tv) and not one of the 2 monitors.

Anyone have any thoughts about this? Or possibly anyone have a setup like this? I searched and really couldn't find any thread about this.

why dont you just add a "thin" client box to your Tv set like an eeeBox (see my signature) or something similar? I think this should be much easier (and maybe also cheaper) to achieve

    Hi Rolls,

Starting MP on the 3th is the easy one... in MP setup there is a setting for multiple monitors with the monitor to use.
The IR sensor is do-able with a 20ft usb cord.
The screen however... I guess a HDMI cable with that length will perhaps pickup unwanted signals...

Why not use a cheap low-end pc as a MP-Client connected to the server?

EDIT: OOPS, joystick beat me to it...
