Hi all. Joined 10 minutes ago. Installed this software 2 hours ago based on some things i read at other boards.
I have a Hauppauge 1600 tuner with WinTV 6 installed. Runs fine. Thought I would try this program. Thought it might be smoother. Some of my QAM channels don't load every time running up and down the channels.

At this point I am somewhat lost. Let me ask a few questions:

Trying to start Mediaportal I get an error message but the smallish message window is covered by the mediaportal logo window so I can't read the message. I thought it might say active x is outdated so I installed the latest. Same thing happens.

In MyTV in settings or some other category I am asked to 'please specify IP or host name of master tv service'
The input field lists my computer name. The only options are change and back. Don't know on this one.

I thought this program would operate similar to Wintv. It would scan for available channels and then play them.

All I want at this point is to see if this program does a better job of scanning and displaying the cable channels thru my Hauppauge card.

Thanks if anyone can get me going.

ur PC name should be Ok if u are installing on one PC - "single seat installation".

Also, you may need to give some more information...
Unless you have made a mistake somewhere along the installation, you should not see this "TV Server" message if you have installed the entire application on the one PC.

During the installation, if you say "Yes" when asked if you will be watching HD TV on the system, then the TV Service will be installed locally. As long as the TV Service is running, then your own PC should pick it up correctly.

Look in the start menu programs listing fo Team Mediaportal and then TV server. TV Server configuration is where you can scan for channels and preview them to see their quality.

Hope this helps, have to run now.

    Marcus.

I was finally able to see the error message after rebooting. It is: Your version 6.5.2600.2180 of quartz.dll has too many bugs. I believe quartz.dll is active x so apparently downloading the latest from Microsoft did not cure this. If someone knows an acceptable version, please advise.

When I open TV server I see a smallish window asking me for database connection settings. Microsoft SQL server 2005 is selected. At the bottom it asks for a password. I know I saw this somewhere but can't find it again. Do I want to do this?

Do I really want to install this program? Will it be an improvement over WinTV? So far it is a pain.

Also, I went to a wiki page link titled TV-engine_0.3 from the TV server window. Said: not allowed to view this page.

Let me add to the above. During the install I am almost positive I answered yes to the will I be watching HD tv question.

In the TV server app I have not gone past the first window to actually scan channels, just the database input with the required password that I don't know.

I'm sorry. I tried. Installed newer quartz.dll. No effect.
I run xp sp2 with automatic updates OFF. Don't want all that junk unless I know exactly what benefit it will have.
Have Media Player 11, active x 9c? I think, and the other requirements EXCEPT all regular XP updates.
Computer ran fine before I installed Mediaportal-- but after--
When I rebooted, or off and on, I would see that error (logo) window as a translucent rectangle that stayed no matter what I opened. WinTV would no longer loop to the top or bottom of the channel list. I could only reverse direction.
    I uninstalled everything.
Maybe I will look into this program when I have a better understanding of its requirements and benefits.

It won't work at all until you set up the database. The user ID is "sa" (should already be populated in the user ID field) and the password is "MediaPortal" (case sensitive). If you don't get this to connect, the TV service doesn't work. I had a similar error when first setting up which, from memory, was solved once I had the username/password combo correct.

Thank-you SwissBuster. I needed that pw. I thought I tried that but may have missed the Capital P.
Oh well. It has been uninstalled, but I do have the .rar file. It is 21.8 MB and is 1.0_RC2. I may try again. I really don't know if I will see any benefit over what I have installed now. I may need a little convincing before I try again.
