Building the first MediaPortal (1 Viewer)

Hallo!

I´m planing my first Mediaportal. At present there is a Topfield PVR with a dual sateliten receiver and a HD TV.
The Mediaportal is to replace the Topfield receivers in future.

Please have a look at my hardware plan. Is there anythink missing or wrong?

Hi.
Sieht soweit gut aus. ich würde vielleicht 8 GB RAM nehmen (RAM Disk für Timeshift, RAM ist spottbillig atm)

DLan ist Murks, kannst du kein "richtiges" Lan legen? Falls nein, unbedingt die GBit Variante nehmen. Bei WLan und DLan wird immer maßlos und wirklich unverschämt übertrieben, was die tatsächliche Geschwindigkeit betrifft. GBit DLan ist in der Praxis viel langsamer als ein 100MBit Kabel- Lan. Spielt natürlich nur eine Rolle, wenn du später TV (oder andere Medien) übers Netz streamen willst. Fürs Internet tut es schon normales WLan, was ich dann dem DLan doch vorziehen würde (ist viel unkomplizierter und in aller Regel deutlich billiger)...

Ob man eine Dual- Tuner oder zwei Single Tuner Karten nimmt, ist Geschmackssache. Aber für 2 Tevii 470 bekommt man schon fast eine DigitalDevices Dual Tuner Karte, die ich dann doch vorziehen würde. Sonst vielleicht eine Mystique Satix (oder die fast baugleiche DVBSky) Dual Karte nehmen. Die kostet 10€ mehr als eine einzelne Tevii 470.

Short translation:
8GB RAM -> RAM Disk

If possible no DLan, If it's a must, it has to be the GBit version. If only Internet needed (no streaming) Wlan is enough....

Maybe a dual tuner Digital Devices instead two Single Tuner Cards, should be at nearly the same prize but with higher quality.

Okay, i changed teh List to:

TV Card: 1 x Digital Devices Cine S2 V6.0
RAM: 2 x Kingston / CL9 / Kit 2x2GB / DDR3-1333 4GB

The dlan is a temporary solution. Up to the next renovation is there no cable in the TV corner.

Another question still: A Win7 pro 64bit be okay? Or an 32 bit?

I see - LAN Devolo dLAN 500 AVplus Starter Kit 1 - in your list.

How well it works depends on what you use it for, but I user a 200MBs TP-Link set up, my MePo is connected to a 100M switch (an old ADSL router in fact) which also has content on basic NAS box (4TB). Over the TP-Link, the MePo (and my sons xbox) share the link to Internet [TP-link into the one ADSL router I use as an ADSL router) AND my MePo TV server [UK Freeview SD transmissions only, dual tuner], which allow me to watch TV & copy recording to a 3rd box (for edit & MKV encode), which is also on the end of another TP-Link connection (which then shares another 100M switch - a different old ADSL router :-} with my work laptop & our print server). Wife, son & Ipod's are all Wifi'd however.

Have to admit however the house is fairly small, all devices on the same ring & cabling is only 14yrs old however, so not a solution for all, but for me, a life saver when wife decided to re-arrange the living room and everything except the aerial point:->

Also - as above Win 7 64Bit - perfect for MePo, especially given your hardware list.

dLan is no Problem...
i have 400Mbit DLan from Netgear and i can watch Blurays/m2ts/1080i LiveTV from Server without any problems
