Wooohooooooooooooo!!!!! Port forwarding is working!!!!!!!!!!!! Where's the smiley face that shows someone running around the room with their hands in the air??? :D @ thekiwi & an0nz - thanks for your help with this guys. I went for the fixed IP on the wireless router then forwarding required ports to it and then the HTPC, tweaked my W7 firewall settings a bit more and finally (after years of trying) it's sorted! @ bttmnz - thanks for the suggestion - I threw the HDD in the freezer (it's stuffed so it was worth a try!:)) but she's still dead - just a lot of grinding going on in there :( I'm not too worried with regard to the content, I'll be able to get that sorted but I'm a bit pi$$ed with regard to the drive because it was very rarely used (especially compared to a HDD installed in a PC) - it is an external USB drive that only ever got turned on when movies were being played from it - not an every day occurrence. It's still under warranty according to Ingram Micro but I have to go back through the shop I bought it from (PB Technologies according to Ingram Micro) - and this is the only piece of HTPC equipment that I can't find the receipt for. PB Technologies confirm they sold it to me (via the serial number) but they say I need the receipt as well - I might have to go in there this week and get angry! :growl: :bitch: Bleazle
