Out of the box, MP should have no problems playing DVD's (discs or HDD rips), even with no other codecs or filters installed. If it doesn't it typically means one of the following:

    1) General requirements have not been met: GeneralRequirements - MediaPortal Wiki Documentation. Leave the link to the codecs section for now. You only need that for all the non-DVD stuff (ie AVI's, xvids etc), and you need to take this a step at a time - ie get DVD's playing.

    2) Additional codecs have been installed (this may not be obvious.... things like PowerDVD and WinDVD install their own DVD navigators and codecs - they shouldn't interfere in normal circumstances, but stranger things can happen). Uninstall any additional codec packs (eg diabolical things like KLite).

    3) Default settings are changed. Make sure MPV / MPA is set under DVD Codecs.

If all that fails, set the log verbosity to debug (under general in config) and repost your logs.

OK, that provides no clues, other than no VMR9 / EVR log, which suggests the graph isn't being built, although normally you get an error with that. Time to download graphedit, run MP in windowed mode while graphedit is running, start playing your DVD, then "Connect to Remote Graph". Do a screen capture of graphedit (ALT-PRTSCR), paste it into paint, and save the image as a jpg and upload it here.

Also, run dxdiag and select "Save All Information" and post the resulting text file output. Do this first.

thanks for your help but I'm defeated - sounds like not a simple fix - 500 Mb download for graphedit plus XBMC is working well (though prefer MP) so I'll try again when next version is released

    cheers
