Hello

I recently stumbled across this project - it's inspired me to actually get off my butt and build a PVR... :p

At the moment, I don't have a computer on the network with a TV Capture card.. I do have an Hauppauge PVR 150 on order (seems that it's supported)

I've installed MediaPortal in a few different forms in a VM and on my laptop (while I get the pieces together to make a TV Server), but running into some questions I can't really find the answer to...

If I record a TV show (with MediaPortal TV Server), can that be played back through a MediaPortal client? I would assume as much, but...

Can those same recorded TV shows be played with a non-MediaPortal client? Like, WinAmp or VLC Media Player?

Can imported content (say from a video camera, downloaded from the Internet, etc) be streamed with TV Server, or should those go on a network share and configure with MediaPortal client to use that path for video? Any issues pertaining to codecs, etc?

Thanks..

Tim

Let me quickly attempt to answer:

    Of course :)

Yes, unlike MS MCE, MP does not lock your recordings in any way. Can be played back on any computer, with any player (well, that has the right codecs/splitters installed obviously).

Can imported content (say from a video camera, downloaded from the Internet, etc) be streamed with TV Server, or should those go on a network share and configure with MediaPortal client to use that path for video? Any issues pertaining to codecs, etc?
No, network share. TV-Server currently only streams ..... well TV :) It is a feature for the future though.

    Thanks..

    Tim
