Open MePo Configuration, go to Videos (or TV, doesn't matter), Post Processing. Look for a CyberLink/PowerDVD upscaling/denoise filter, double click it and open the configuration. I can't tell you for sure that it will work since I don't have PowerDVD installed.

this would be great and mean i didnt have to struggle to load PDVD and close it etc.
unfortunatley i tried what you suggested and there are no options or upscaling/denoising just colour and deinterlacing options

PostProcessing can be done by using the options provided in MP Configuration.

3: allow music files to be played via spdif using Wasapi either in house or with an external player again?

our inbuilt BASS player can do that.

i am impressed with the inbuilt BASS player as it played flac directly. must admit i only had a quick look but only remeber seeing an asio option.

In MP Conifg click the + next to Videos and then at the bottom you will have Video Post Processing, there you can choose filters and edit there properties.

i dont want to go down the ffdshow road so if there is a way to use pdvd or tmt upscaling/denoise through MP properties it would be really great

unfortunately this does not work
there is no way to use Powerdvd codecs and its upscaling within MP. neither can it be loaded successfully or more importantly closed if selected as an external player

really disappointed with this software as it has so much potential but fails with the basics

There is no reason why it won't work it may just be that you are using an incompatible codec. This may be of use: SAF. I suggest you get the system working with the instructions here, before experimenting with other codecs, so you can work away from a known functional baseline.

You make it clear that you want to stay clear of FFDShow, but I don't see why if the end results are a working system with upscaling!

MP is a truly fantastic and highly configurable piece of software and will do what you want it to do.

i have tried everything i can find to get the TV working in basic mode with a clean install. i have read others have problem with Blackgold. i will however try and ingest the link you sent so thanks again

i spent weeks on forums that are using ffdshow to upscale and the results were not as good as using either PDVD or TMT. i know these cost but i believe worth it. unfortunately loading these programs to do avi's and dvd's seem problematic
i agree MP has the potential and for me the dynamic refresh change would be invaluable but unfortunately without TV working it would be a compromise


EDIT:
i did a clean install, then added SAF, then installed MP, set TV codec to Powerdvd, then scanned my area. Bingo!! now seeing signal, but TP1-4 found nothing so very limted channels (but at least i know it can work) am rescanning now with t he 'all' areas setting
