Can MP be configured to stop timeshifting after [x] hours of inactivity? (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

I just wondered is there any method of being able to set the client up to stop 'Live TV' after a certain amount of time if no buttons are pressed on the remote (much like a Sky+ box does?).

I used to use S3 standby with Powerscheduler++ but had numerous problems with it. All I really want is a solution that will stop 'Live TV' (and timeshifting) if I forget to stop it manually before turning the TV off and going to bed or going out for a few hours. Seems a waste to be timeshifting TV for hours when I'm not even at the screen.

Any help much appreciated! Maybe there's a plugin I haven't spotted...

Hi Phil,

Have you tried the MySleepTimer plugin?

I put this on our bedroom client and set the TV to shut down after no signal. This means the GF can set the sleeptimer whilst watching TV, and then when she falls asleep the MP Client shutsdown after 'x' minutes, and then TV turns off too! It is easy to use and set up and a great plugin to have!

Thanks for the suggestion, but not quite what I'm after.

I was hoping for something that would automatically switch off Live TV after a certain amount of time (no matter whether you asked it to or not). Sky+ does what I want-- turns off the telly if you don't touch any buttons for about 2 hours.

Anyone know if such a thing exists?

No it does not exist, Sky does annoying things, in my case crash at least once a day (had for years SkyHD+ dumped 3 wks ago), personally I like to control my viewing, so does the rest of the family, as porky said, use something like sleeptimer, sadly if you are watching tv with MP, theoretically it will never stop.

Now you have got me on the subject, Might do a Sky+ comparision against MP experience for me lol

I think you should, it would be a useful guide. A pal of mine is paying about £90/month for Sky HD+ and multiroom. Over a grand a year for the same as MP can do for free (OK, doesn't have all the HD channels but that's not a deal breaker) For over a grand, you can buy and build all the kit for a good, main HTPC and 2 mini pc clients. Payback in 12 months.
