And adjust the screen accordingly?

so far nothing I have tried is able to do this..
widescreen broadcast is very common in Belgium and the Netherlands.

recording this in a widescreen resolution or displaying the broadcast vertically stretched to the correct aspect would be a real plus..

It's on the Todo list for the Video Player.
    See Todo.txt in C:\Program Files\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\Docs

As for video / TV capture I would think it's impossible.
Depending on your card / country you should capture at the full D1 resolution where possible 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL / SECAM)
If widescreen is broadcast it's still for example 720x576 but with black bars to and bottom your capture device and to the same effect MP will not receive a Widescreen output notification (example SCART pin 8) that a TV set would usually get.

Try the 'S' key aspect ratio options for now to see how you get on.

I guess if it's on the Todo for the video player if my be implemented for TV as well...

Hello!!! I use a handy app called catchin' sync to roughly check the AV sync of audio/video on my HTPC/TV. It's not as accurate as a dedicated opto-electronic calibrator but it's more than adequate for this application and much better than trying to do things by eye (even when the lack of sync is massively obvious, subjective...

OK, this is specifically for people in Belgium (Vlaanderen) who are using Telenet Cable with MediaPortal 2. Next year (Edit: this year, in march 2020) the Telenet provider will stop broadcasting Analog TV and Radio signals on their cable, and make the switch to Digital (DVB-C). The radio signals will disappear completely, so you'll...

MPExtended (Mobil access) for MP2 only for TV access It's available and properly working since beginning of this year... I've used it until I switched over from DVB-S to SAT>IP in Spring 2018 where such things are no longer necessary at all.
