Can MP handle 'optical in'? (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

I am havin hooked my external settop box to my PC. I am getting the picture through S-Video and the sound on an analogue way into the input of my capture card. That works fine ...

Now the question: I bought a Terratec Aureon 7.1 PCI which has an 'optical in' (Toslink). I want to take the 5.1 sound of the settop box instead of the stero one. It is in the PC so to say ... how to get it into MP now?

In the tvcard setup there is the Audio in #1 #2 and #3 which nothing has to do with the optical in of my sound card ... that's clear ...

Yeh, I was expecting not much answer as I too havent seen anything about this. Seems at this stage its not possible.

Have you tried mapping the inputs in the tv card settings? I'm not to sure about the terminology but I'm referring to the Audio in #1 #2 #3 that you were talking about. My guess is that on your audio card the toslink input is one of these inputs. I'm just guessing though, and might have misunderstood you, so all this might be crap.

yes, I have tried the #1-3. No reaction ...

I guess that is related only to the inputs of the TV-Card.

By the way I doubt at all if there is much function behind that #1-3. They are there since I play with MP (0.1.3.) and never read s.th. about it.

I am wondering how all that people who are using Settop boxes get 5.1 sound???

Can you explain your question a little more precisely? Do you want a dolby pass-through from set-top-box, bia PC to a stand alone Dolby digital decoder/receiver? Or do you want your PC to decode an AC3 stream to 5.1 analog outs?
