Can MP support multiple drives that are NOT always on? (1 Viewer)

I rip all of my own blurays to HDD (kids under 3 = must have backup), and they are scattered across several HDD's. I have a hot swap bay that I use to load the appropriate HDD (I have to refresh device manager for new HDD to be recognized).

Can MP support this configuration? Ideally, I'd like to have all of my movies loaded in a visual database like MP, and when I click on something it asks me to insert the appropriate HDD (I would even settle on inputting which drive each movie is on during the setup stage).

If not MP, any other program? Thanks! I couldn't figure out what search terms to use for my situation. Most multiple drive users look like they have all the drives active all the time. I only have one HDD active (other than my C: drive).

Hi gen-x,

MP uses, just like windows, a driveletter which you select in the configuration utility.
This can be a local drive or external/netwerkdrive as well.

If, after swapping, the disc is still configured with the same driveletter, I don't see any problem. MP just looks at the contents of a drive and if that drive is recognized under windows and has a driveletter which is known in MP, it should be ok.

It might become a problem when using the 'Moving pictures' plugin but for that, you have to ask the specialists.

I'm wrecking my head trying to do the same thing.

I have seven 2TB drives and one hot swap bay. It's not feasible for me to have them all on at the same time.

All the drives, in the hotswap bay, are listed as E. They have different names, however. My concern is that after putting time into the library itself, once I reswap a drive - it'll go awry with confusion and error.

Ideally, if I tried to play something that was on a different drive - it would give the name or display the path - but if that can't be done, then at least not undo all the listings of one drive when the other is put in.
