can tv guide show replay/repeat information? (1 Viewer)

hi all,

as per subject, just curious on whether any EPGs contain replay/repeat information? i would like to avoid recording episodes of tv shows that i have seen before.

if EPGs do contain this information, i guess the next logical question is will the MP/StreamedMP interface display repeat information? as it doesn't currently, however, this may be down to a lack of information in the EPG i use.

hmm, i'm betting that my query is not unique... i did a major search through the forums before posting, and found a few mentions, but nothing concrete.

has anyone seen replay information in an EPG, and does anyone know if this can be displayed in MP's TV Guide?

I guess it depends where you get your guide data from. I can only comment on GuideDigger, which produces the data in XMLTV format, and it does include the word "repeat" in the data if the broadcaster has flagged it.

Of course the broadcaster has no knowledge of whether you recorded the original broadcast, so I doubt it would be very useful to tell MP not to record anything labelled "repeat".

I don't actually know if MP is able to make use of the "repeat" flag and modify its action accordingly, but I can be sure that it's possible to include it in the XML.

thanks for the reply angusmann - i'm using MP's inbuilt EPG grabber (as per attached image), so i'm not sure if these contain repeat information at present (i don't know where this information ends up).

if MP were able to make use of the repeat flag that would be great, but right now, it's more for my own manual benefit - say for example, i have to choose between recording show A, and show B, and i can see that show A is a repeat, i will then record show B... since i know that i've seen all previous episodes of show A.

does anyone have any further thoughts on this, or suggestions?

Maybe For The Record is a solution?
Am not using it myself (yet) but from what I understand, it has interesting features.

TVServer scheduler can avoid recording an episode twice if EPG provides episode number information.
