Can you record shows one after the other with only 1 tuner? (1 Viewer)

I was wanting to know if this is possible since there are shows I'd like to record one after the other. I set the pre and post record options to 0, so there's no overlap, and I still can't. Is there some other setting I am missing?

This should work. There is always a small gap when MP stops first recordings and begins to start next. But beneath these few seconds, everything should work fine.
Maybe look at setup-television-recording and play around with "Ignore pre/post recording...", but afaik this should only affect recordings on same channel.

If still not working for you, please fill in a complete report with all logs.

If you use the new TVengine3 and if you have DVB and if both recordings are on the same transponder, than the too recordings are both perfect, because the TVengine3 can recording multiply channels on the same transponder.

Sorry to reopen this post and for my ignorance but, since we have timeshifting why can't we overlap recordings with the same TV card?

It´s only a matter of witch part of the buffer goes to file, Isn't it?

I can't understand why can't we overlap the time equal to the timeshift buffer.

    Thanks for your attention

I think it used to do that but not for quite some time now. I'm not sure weather it ever worked with recordings but it now takes t tuners to watch and record the same program and it used to only take one, so I assume it had a similar effect on recording.

I don't know if I explained my self right, of curse I mean that it should be possible if both programs were on the same channel.

For example if I have a program starting at 22:30 and another ending at the same time on the same channel, it should be possible to do this:
    Program1 (Channel A): from xx:xx to 22:35
    Program2 (Channel A): from 22:25 to xx:xx

Media Portal should only consider conflict if subsequent recordings occur on different channels.

    Thanks,

One of the devs (possible DMAN) said a while ago that it's not as simple as that with the existing TV engine since it uses the MS system.
The new TV engine does work correctly this way, since Frodo and the others developed their own system.

So, if you want this to work properly there really is no alternative than to install the new TV server. It's a bit more complicated to install, but will give much better results (with Digital, I can't speak for Analog).

I am using TV3 with analog.
Every once in a while I record back-to-back shows on the same channel.
    18:00-18:30
    18:30-19:00
I have a pre- and post-record time of 5 minutes.
    I end up with the first show of 40 minutes (30 + 5pre + 5post)
as well as the 2nd show of 30 minutes (18:35 to 19:05).

I need to watch the first part of the 2nd recording from the 1st file and the rest from the 2nd file. A small hickup - nothing serious.

I think it was changes some time ago, now you can only use the data from 1 tuner for one thing wether that is recording a program, or watching a program. it will take 2 tuners to record overlapping times (it shouldn't but I think it does, I haven't checked recently) same goes if you try to turn live TV on to the channel you are recording you won't be able to because the tuner is recording, doesn't make a lot of sense and it was different a long time ago unless it has gone back to the old, better way where the minimum number of tuners would be used)
