Hi All,

Ever since I have used Media Portal, I have periodically had the error "Cannot Start Timeshifting No Free Card Available". This typically happens after the machine has woken from S3 sleep and the only way I seem to be able to resolve it is to reboot the machine. It's extremely frustrating as nothing is recorded, but the machine wakes up as normal for the recording.

I have 2 x dual tuner cards in my machine - a PVR150 (Analog) and a Nova 500-T (Digital). Could the 2 cards be clashing? Would it make a difference if I added another digital card instead - I sometimes need to record more than 2 things at once.

I also notice that when I'm using other application specified under "Processes" in Powerscheduler, when I exit them, the machine shuts down immediately - this is often (but not always) the time when I have this error after the machine resumes from S3 sleep.

Any pointers on the above would be appreciated.

Regards

Graham

same same

Hi

Got the same problem, but i´m using a single FireDTV - T card. When it happens in MP i can close MP and FireDTV viewer works. If i start MP it still doesnt work. Reboot and all ok.

Works better with Win7 RTM X64 than Vista X64

Hi Jim,

Will do.

One thing I read recently was that channels that were not tuned correctly could cause an issue, so I removed these and the error has not appeared since, however it is a random error, so I'm not holding much hope.

As mentioned in my original post, could the fact that I have a PVR150 and a Nova 500-T cause any conflict issues?

I will active the extensive log tracking and post anything that I can find.

Hi All,

Had another error this evening and re-booted my machine without thinking, so I'm assuming I have lost my log files. Can anyone tell me the specific log files that might highlight the issues? Also, how do you re-start the TV Tuner Card without rebooting??

Also, I thought it might be worth mentioning that I have Powerscheduler running which sends the machine into S3 sleep. It also has "processes" set which stop the machine going into S3 sleep if they are being used. I notice that once I stop using these processes, the machine goes straight into S3 sleep (as opposed to a delay like MP) and I'm wondering whether the TV Tuner card has been upset through this? i.e. the fast S3 sleep I also noticed tonight the machine went to sleep between recordings even though in Powerscheduler I set it to stay awake between certain times - the "No Free Card" error appeared once I woke the machine from S3 sleep.

Will drop log files ASAP.

Would appreciate and help with this issue.

Cheers

Hi All,

OK, I finally have some log files after getting the "no free card" error.

I would really ap[preciate someone having a look at these to determine what the underlying issue is. This error is something I have had since using Media Portal and is intermittant - it has actually been 2 weeks since it has come up again. I'm sure it has something to do with my S3 sleep routine.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards

Graham

Have you tried increasing the delay before TV card detection in TV-server (it looks like it's currently 20s) ?

Do you use the 're-initialise TV-service on resume' option ?

If all else fails, you could use Devcon commands to restart the T-500 devices from a batch file which is run on resume (it's the T-500 which is 'card not found' at 2009-11-18 07:50:07 in the logs) - there's a example batch file here https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/mediaportal-1-talk-45/fix-nvidia-stuttering-after-resume-without-restarting-mp-70320/

    Hi Owlsroost,

I really appreciate the reply - thanks.

Is 20 seconds not enough of a delay? What would you recommend?

Yep, I have reinitialise tuner from standby set

I have been told about Devcon before, so will look into this.

    Cheers
