I use the silicondust tuner, works great. It came with a copy of Arcsoft Totalmedia (not theater, think 'lite version'). It works failry well, but not configurable etc. I decided to try the arcsoft video decoder in my MP setup. Picture is superb, sound always nice and in sync. the problem arises when I try to delete recorded tv from the HDD. I get "can't delete .....blah...blah...because it is being used by another process."

This only happens when I'm using the arcsoft decoders for Audio or Video. any other decoders and the files can be deleted as expected.

batter up.

thanks.

That sounds as if the codecs are tied to the actual software, is there any totalmedia services running that could be interfering, if so try disabling.

I did kill everything That was obviously related to Totalmedia. could be something running that I'm missing. I'll look again.
    thanks for the input.

well, I found the arcsoft connect process still running and killed it. didn't solve the problem thought.

Is there a way to un-install total media but keep the arcsoft codecs?

    well, a little more info.

I can't delete the files (using windows explorer) as long as MP is still running. I can delete them if I stop MP and I can delete them as long as I haven't watched them with MP. If I start watching and stop, then try to delete it fails saying the file is still in use.

I had a smilar problem which I think may spread some light on the problem -
Exectly the same happens with ffdshow - but only if "overlay" is on in ffdshow. It makes all the files that were played in MP remain lock until MP is closed.

    thanks!

thanks Doron. I'll go check that. I'm not using FFDshow for anything at the moment, but it could still be causing the problem. It is installed and I have used it in the past. I'll update here if I have any luck.

    still locked. still trying.

I checked the FFDshow settings, but overlay isn't set and I'm not using FFDshow for anything in MP.

I has to be something about those codecs that MP doesn't like or handle quite right and can't release the file after reading it.

Meanwhile, this is a minor porblem. I just restart MP and use the cleanup.

thanks for the replys. I'll look at the unlocker, might be a good band-aid fix for now.
