Hi,

after installing MP 1.0.1 my computer can't enter standby, either from Windows or from MediaPortal (via PowerSchedule plugin). I am running both client and server on the same machine.

Any ideas? The most important is to make it work first in Windows!
Do you recommend any specific configuration?

Any logs that can help me troubleshoot the problem?

Regards,
Akis

P.S. The same applies also for Hibernate

If you can't get the basic windows system to hibernate/standby to work than I think you will struggle to get the MP hibernate/standby to work.

If you set your power button to put the PC into standby does it work, or does it not standby or just come straight out of standby?

Try looking at the windows task manager (control alt delete) and see what processes are active. Sort by CPU usage and see what is most active. You can try "killing" a process in turn and try pressing the power button and by the process of elimination you can identify which process is causing the system to not standby/hibernate. Then either un-install the associated application or click "Start", "Run" and type "msconfig" and hit enter. This will bring up a programme with will allow you to disable items from the start-up . If you don't know what the process is or does, then type the process name into google to help you understand what is causing the problem.

When you have sorted this, the try with MP again.

    Good luck.

I must have used all possible ways to enter Standby.
From the Start => Shutdown menu, from the MediaPortal using PowerSheduler (TV Server and Client co-located), from the Windows Power Management options and finally from the Power button (on both the remote control and case).

I followed the above advice, killing the most CPU-demanding processes one by one. After killing more than 10 processes (even basic windows processes i.e. Explorer), the computer can't enter Standby.
When once I attempted to standby having the TV Service process running, I could see in the Windows XP Event Viewer that the TVService.exe stopped the Standby. After I killed it along with all the SQLServer processes, I couldn't enter standby either and there was no relevant event logged in the Event Viewer.

Do you have any other tips or ideas on this issue?
The best would be to set the level of Windows logging to the right one for troubleshooting!

Im having this same problem also. However, it is only within MP that I cant enter Sleep or Hibernate. From Windows XP itself it works no problem. This is really annoying though because I think this is why I cant get Power Scheduler working. Any advice?

I am using XP SP 3.

In the first steps of the Windows configuration I could use Standby.
After I installed some programs + MP, it is not possible any more.

Any help is more than appreciated!

Check out the MCE Standby tool (http://slicksolutions.eu/mst.shtml). Should allow you to enable S3 standby at initial install, (or configure later on the "Sleep State" tab). Then there's lots of options there to play with that may well help at runtime - not least of which is a log file (check "Create log file" on the "Debug" tab).

    Good luck.
