    Hi and welcome whiskeynsoda :)

2nd part (create "mc2xml.chl" file)...huh? have no idea how to do that
I think the second part happens when you run the exe (double click on it) and enter + save your settings. Maybe try and follow the tutorial/comments -->here<--.

3rd part well i have no idea..open a dos box...u got me..i havent seen dos in 20 years.
Click start, type cmd in the search box, hit enter.

I have right now under the XMltv plugin the list of channels under mapping after i load/refresh... and the boxes next to drop down menu to select provider they are all red..
They're red because the channels aren't linked to guide info. They are green when the mapping is set up.

:infact the dropdown menu when i click on it is just a a blank box..
That is because the XMLTV file that you imported (if you did actually import one) doesn't have any channel definitions. I'm inclined to think you didn't manage to import an XMLTV file. Note that you can view the contents of an xml file in any text editor (notepad, wordpad etc.).

    any ideas ..
There is a ton of info about the XMLTV plugin settings -->here<--, but no point in getting there until you have a tvguide.xml file.

Also I have no idea where my tvguide.xml folder should be on the general tap in the xmltv plugin...
It can be anywhere you like, as long as you put the xmltv.dtd file in the same folder. The DTD file is in C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\xmltv. Note that is a hidden folder so the simplest thing is probably to search c:\ for xmltv.dtd with searching of hidden files and folders enabled. Failing that, you can download the latest one from -->here<--. When I say "anywhere you like", that is part of the dos box thing you mentioned. One of the command line parameters for mc2xml is the place where it should put the tvguide.xml file that it generates. So, what you want to do is:

    1. Create a folder or choose a place where you want the tvguide.xml file to live.
    2. Copy/download the xmltv.dtd file into that folder.
    3. Run mc2xml and configure all your settings.
    4. Run mc2xml again from the dox box and use the command line parameters to specify your folder with the xmltv.dtd file in it. You'll use the cd command to change directory to the location where the mc2xml.exe file is (example: cd "c:\Program Files\mc2xml"), and then mc2xml.exe -o "c:\My XMLTV output folder\tvguide.xml" to run mc2xml and generate the tvguide.xml.
    5. Open TV Server configuration.
    6. Set the tvguide.xml location.
    7. Manually import.
    8. Go to the mappings tab and set up/fix and save the mappings (the drop down list should not be empty if you've done things correctly).
    9. Import again to get programs imported in the guide. Note that TV Server config will freeze while it is importing. Give it 3-5 minutes and then check the guide in MP - all being well you should have a nice full guide. :)

...and am i supposed to do anything in webepg.
Usually you'd use either use webepg *or* mc2xml to generate your tvguide.xml file. Both could be used if necessary, but I recommend getting mc2xml working to start with.

where do i write the program to under the general tab.
Sorry I don't know what you mean but I guess this refers to webepg. mc2xml does *not* require webepg. Both mc2xml and webepg are ways to get a tvguide.xml file that you can import with the XMLTV plugin.

have you tried to set your hauppauge tuner to grab epg from the channels ?
i.e. in tv-server config >tap on the tv-servers tab and then the tv-server then on the tuner and press edit button below.

    @Da_JoJo: doesn't work for ATSC TV. ;)
then why does mine grab epg from dvb-t which is atsc ?
and not to mention my virtual anysee tuner for dvb-c which acts as a atsc dvb-t tuner ?
do i miss something here ? lol
btw this windows 7 dont like to have writable inits and xml's in its program dir
they made a nice virtualstore in userdir for it which tend to screw things up
so i suggest to put all writable files in my documents or another drive.
some times there is also this problem with java and xml exploits.
suggest to run a scan with antivirus. http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/nl-nl/default.aspx

DVB-T and ATSC are different (but have some common features).

Both exist (rather than having just one global system) because of the 'Not Invented Here' syndrome on both sides of the Atlantic, basically - but of course DVB-T is better ;)

    Thanks mm1352000 for your instructions.
Finally got the guide working with your simple instructions.

The app is available from there : mc2xml

Instructions are also provided on that webpage.
