Synopsis::

I split cable coax from wall, one to back of computer, other to cable box. When scanning channel, channel 3 comes in but shows whatever channel the cable box is on. I get no other channels. I can detect radio stations. I also tried straight from wall to computer with coax but no channels. I have comcast cable near boston MA, and a happauge 500 dual tuner. I assumed I could just plug in coax and get channels 2-99 just like pluging coax into a tv without a set top box. Was I way off? Do I need a different tuner card?

Your assumption was correct and it should work.

I split cable coax from wall, one to back of computer, other to cable box. When scanning channel, channel 3 comes in but shows whatever channel the cable box is on.

Not possible without a signal going from the cable box to the TV Card.
Check you cable paths again.
Also verify you have them correctly installed, Coax going to
correct input on the card and have the correct path from the wall.

Yea, I was using the wrong cord, darn colors the same, and it was a bad initial setup.
I am getting the channels, but I am not gettin get good quality at all, its very fuzzy, I can make out the channels and such but its rather un watchable and no reason to record stuff that looks that bad. Any ideas on how to get rid of the fuzziness? I tried it straight from wall and through a splitter they look the same, of course on my real tv picture is great.

Are you talking about PQ in MP?

If so, I would check your tv/recording quality settings, if they are low PQ will be bad on a TV.
On my PVR500 I have the medium/default quality at maybe 8000-12000 VBR

Yea I tried those settings, i even tried bumping up the bitrate on the highest quality and to no avail. Could it be my card, drivers, It also locks up when I try to make it full screen.
Should I get and try a different card? I was looking at this one at best buy only because it would be easy to return if I get the same result.

I am not familiar with that card, I would check the MP wiki of
supported TV cards first.

Could be a driver, not sure what version you have.
Have you tried newer ones from Hauppauge, the MP download
section or http://www.shspvr.com/
(shspvr forum and usually hauppauge have the latest version)
