First of all, this program is a very, very good thing - as far as I can tell. It took me some time to find out a lot of things but it's exactly what I need, I guess.

I've been trying to get the keyboard back to work for the last 8 hours (and I tried that some hours yesterday as well).

I am using the last version which is RC4 on a Windows Vista system with Intel-Duocore. I have no remote attached so far, so my HID are only the keyboard and the mouse. For some reason I can't get the keyboard to work, and so I have to stick to the mouse, which is rather unpleasent.

I searched the net, and the only thing I found was that I should copy the keymap.xml to the "Team MediaPortal\Mediaportal" folder, which I did. But nothing changed. It's not that MP wouldn't accept any keystrokes, for example I can enter the pagenumber for teletext. But in the menues the cursor-keys, enter, etc. just don't work. The only keys that work are <alt>+<enter> and <f2> or <f3> which brings up a popup telling me that I have to close MP before entering the configuration.

I then tried the keyboard-plugin, and definde cursor-up, cursor-down and enter. Cursor-up worked, but when I pressed cursor-down, MP crashed. Afterwards I tried brute force and disintalled MP twice (the second time completely incl. the TV-server and answering the question if I know that I'm going to lose all my MP-date twice with yes - so I'll have to rebuild it all again); but it didn't change anything. Of course I copied the keymap.xml again into the folder (after trying if it really doesn't work after reinstalling).

I have know idea what else I could try. Please help a complete newbie with this strange problem.

Hi
Welcome to the forums.
Give this plugin a try and let us know.

You said you did try is, but another user reported positive results.

Well, tried it again, with the same result. As long as I press a mapped key it works. If I touch a screen not mapped MP crashes. So a way would be to map literally every possible key-combination of the keyboard, but to be serious this doesn't sound as a good way.

So I'll keep searching, but it's pretty frustrating. Is it possible, that there is only a simple file missing somewhere? Some kind of standard-keymap? I'm sure it's a typical noob-error that I'm running in, so simple that nobody ever thinks on such a thing. :(

BTW what is strange is that the splashscreen says RC2 instead of RC4 - but I'm sure I installed RC4 and the configuration splash screen gives RC4 anyway. So I think this is an error in the splash screen rather than something wrong with the install, isn't it?

What I found out furthermore:

* When having the PlugIn on, the system isn't crashing when I am in the virtual keyboard (used for entering the title for a video), but then it gets every letter I press more than once (and even capital letters without pressing shift)
* pressing a letter that is used in the keymap.xml (e.g. <backspace>) it does what is assigned
* no matter if the PlugIn is on or off, the virtual keyboard doesn't work properly - meaning I have to click left of the letters to choose them. Most probably this isn't related, but as I don't have an idea of what happens, I thought I mention it, in case this is related somehow.

If I should find out anything else I'll let you know of course.

One more thing that might be of importance. I installed the RC4 on a clean system. Maybe that is related. Don't know but it could be possible, that in the distribution there is a file missing, that most of you have because it was part of the RC2 or RC3. Most probably this all has nothing to do with the problem, but when thinking a long time and trying a lot of things, one comes up with the strangest ideas. ;)

O.K. by searching for keymap.xml in the forum I found the thread of the PlugIn and there is a new version 2.1.0.0 which hasn't been on the DL-server so far. After downloading and installing the new dll the software stopped crashing.

So the only thing I'll need is a keyboard.xml that follows the standard key mapping. I'm closing down on it. :D There has to be such a keyboard.xml somewhere on the web, and if it's there I'll find it. :p

keymap.xml found

It was pure accident that I found the solution of the problem. When searching for other files that I knew had to be somewhere on the C-Disk I found a directory I wasn't aware of so far. In Windows-Vista there's obviously another path that is important.

Of course there are
  • C:\program files\team ....
  • C:\programdata\team..

But there's another place, and this one holds the decisive keymap.xml. And this is

C:\Users\*LOGIN*\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal

where *LOGIN* is of course your login-name. Here was the keymap.xml with only 1 kB. Replaced it and now it works.
