The Subversion system (SVN) is working fine. In fact the switch was made from CVS, because that was often having problems. Since the move there to my knowledge has not been a single problem with SVN.
I have been using TortoiseSVN since then without problem. So I would recommend it as a client.
The source is about 64MB so this first download can take a while depending on your connection speed, but future downloads are only what has changed.
If you subscribe to the SVN mailing list on sourgeforge you will get an email for each SVN change. This will let you follow the changes and know when to update your local SVN directories.

Yeh, I initially thought it was due to my slow connection aswell... but once I stoped sharing my connection through the lan and tried downloading from the machine that dails up, it worked fine.
I think it times out very quickly... i.e. if you dont communicate with the server for a second or two it drops you with that error message.. this would explain the errors you had with the wireless connection, well, at least in SA the wireless connections are not as solid as the fixed line connections (They fluctuate a lot).

I know everyone's pretty busy. But when you get a chance, could you update the "Annoucement: How to get MediaPortal Sources" topic in this forum? It's dated June 2004 and covers using CVS. It could confuse someone new here (like me) since (if I understand right) everything is now in SVN.

I have and googled this problem also. Adding together http://www.apsis.ch/pound/pound_list/archive/2006/2006-02/1139477162000/index_html?fullMode=1 and what Craig said about Windows' internet sharing (I use RRAS).. looks like an XP/Linux TCP incompatibility/bug caused by a recent linux kernel release.
