capture NOT tv card ... how to ? (1 Viewer)

hi
i have a digital receiver designed to be connected to a TV not a computer (it have svideo and audio exits)
but i also have an USB capture card that have an s-video input that i can connect to that external digital receiver
also (it is a laptop) i can connect audio output (from that digital receiver) to microphone input jack of my computer

i verified video input, it is working (used SkyPE)

now, can i use Media Portal to watch TV like this ?
and if i can ... how ? ... on Media Portal TV server configuration, this USB capture card don't show up and i cannot add one

If it is just a USB "Capture Card," rather than a USB "Tuner Card", then it probably won't work with MediaPortal (it won't show in the TV Server as it is not a BDA TV Tuner device).

However, you will need to give more information (such as the model number of the card you have), for anyone to categorically state one way or another.

The digital receiver you are using - what is it (cable, terrestrial or satellite?) and do you have a subscription card with it (who is your supplier/country etc)? It may be that spending as little as £15 could give you the same function, but without needing the digital receiver box at all (subject to the above questions)!

unfortunately there are no more information ...
is an usb capture not tv card (only s-video in) Dazzle Multimedia DM5000
the digital receiver is DVB-C (i think, it doesn't matter anyway) with subscription card

so, if this is not working with media portal ... any idea about a solution for my issue ... please !

Hi and welcome sorcerer25!

Sorry but "pure" capture devices (devices without a tuner) are not currently supported. There are only two exceptions: the Hauppauge HD-PVR and Colossus.

thank you, is a good program to know ... for the future
image in full screen is poor qualilty (and i really believe it is from card ... all programs i tried have the same poor quality )
audio input being connected on an analog input (microphone) have a speed greater than svideo that is converted to digital first inside that usb video capture card, so ! is a delay between audio and video
i also discovered and tried vlc, that have streaming (and can be used in play mode) ... same problems
this seems to becoming too much trouble

i guess i have no other solution that search and buy an external usb tv tuner with audio and s-video input, and use its own program (and it will also have its own remote control ) ... thank you for your answers !
