CCCP codec pack, good or bad with MP? (1 Viewer)

I know, codec packs are generally evil and causing problems. However CCCP is more of a filter pack and is considered safe by most people. Also CCCP works very well and I have had codec problems which disappared after installing CCCP. Had issues where I suddenly got crashes (caused by something WMP did) when viewing some videos which was fixed after resetting to CCCP default settings. Seems to work very well with the settings CCCP use for filters and codecs.

It does install all the necessary codecs/filters you need in one single download so using it makes life easier (maybe).

Anyway it is workign very well outside MP at least, question is if it can cause any problems with MP. I recently uninstalled CCCP from my machine (trying to fix some problems with MyTv but it wasn't a code issue) and no longer have FFDshow etc. Need to install codecs and filters so I can use some formats I can no longer use.

Question is if I should install CCCP or to install ffdshow etc manually. WHat do you recommend?

Anyone had any problems with CCCP?

I use CCCP for video (TV) and h264, AC3 for audio.

So far so good.

I have had more problems with Nero or Roxio being installed, causing viewing problems (without associations) than i have with codec packs (testing VistaCodec pack at moment), but yes the fewer the better is the main motto here, and if something screws them up, it can be a hell of a job rectifying.

If it works for you fine.

Still prefer FILMERIT to check correctly installed\registered though.

cccp codec is great, media portal just doesn't use the codecs properly. we need more configuration options to route files to the codecs we want (or use an external player that routes them correctly).

I want to use cccp too. I wouldn't even mind using an external player like zoom player, but I can't find anywhere that can tell me how to configure it. Anyone know how or got any links to how to configure an external player?

You can select an external player for playing movie files. This can be of use when the internal player does not play files to your likings. An external player has the disadvantage of not using MediaPortals OSD (On-Screen Display) and the preview window will not work. Controls, settings etc. will need to be set separately for this player by going to it’s own setup. Example : C:\Program Files\?ZoomPlayer\zplayer.exe
* Parameters
o Using Command line parameters you can give options to the external player. Some players have some nice options like /Q to quit the player when the movie ends or stops. Example : /Play /Q /S

Yeah I read that already. I was just hopeing that someone had already done this with zoomplayer, and could maybe say how they did it.

I am using cccp.ax with MP for sat TV, it is showing closed caption very well.

But it causes MP to crash very often when switching channels. I assume cccp.ax is still buggy.
(Without cccp.ax, MP is very stable)

Hope some one could fix it.

As far as I can tell CCCP (which I was using before I discovered MediaPortal) pretty much install and configures everything as per Goose' codec guide found here https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/general-development-no-feature-request-here-48/codec-guide-30191/

Of all the codec packs it seems the most well tested and only puts in the things you really need ie it basically installs ffdshow, vsfilter, haali, FLV splitter and that's about it - they leave it to you to install Real Alt and QT Alt). About the only setting I need to change is to get Haali to auto load vsfilter, which you can do through the CCCP settings control, as well as through Haali itself.

On top of CCCP, I install CoreAVC for h.264, and disable this in ffdshow.

I agree with Paranoid Delusion. filmerit, as well as Graphedit and DirectShow Filter Manager are tools that anybody messing with codecs needs.
