    just install this plugin.

i had mediaportal crash when i was on the choose directory and i hit ESC. can someone try this to check if its a bug?

will there be mp3 support soon?

Yeah I'm aware of that. I added that dialog quickly and released it in a hurry. If you hit ESC then no folder is set and it throws an exception. My advice for right now would obviously be to not hit ESC if you are at that point.

Last night I had a few minutes and I added lame (mp3) and flac support. To keep with the simpleness of the plugin I just encoded MP3s in VBR quality level 2. You can just choose via a toggle button what format you want to encode into. Pretty simple stuff.

How high quality did you want it?

You need to attach your logs and system specs.

    Oh, and why MP3???

why mp3? good question, ive seen it only works with ogg which i am not familiar with. so maybe thats the reason. is ogg better than mp3? is ogg as compatible as mp3 with ipods and software?

    thanks for this plugin !

Ogg is lossless (or less lossy?). I'm with you, though. I prefer mp3 as I can't tell a difference between a flac file and an mp3.

The crash will definitely occur with everyone if you hit esc when that dialog is up. No need for logs, but thanks anyway!

Actually, it seems that ogg is a container that wraps other formats (mp3, flac, etc) so it's not necessarily lossless. Lossless means that after being encoded there is no acoustic data lost. In other words, lossless sounds better (in theory, but I can't tell the difference). I'm not 100% clear what the benefits of it are other than there are no licensing issues associated with it like with MP3. Perhaps someone else can shed some light on the benefits of Ogg?

Like I said though, I've added MP3 and FLAC for those of us who need/want it.

After a little more reading and some common sense I see that this rips into Ogg Vorbis, vorbis being the actual codec. The only benefit that I can see is the fact that it's open source and not copyrighted/patented.

Definitely, I'm at work right now so I can only talk about it :D . The original author hasn't been around since June so as long as it's OK with everyone I will make some additions but still give him full credit as he did the majority of the work.

great !! but i think full credit is not fair, both of you should receive the credit.

    meanwhile... receive my thanks !:D
