How difficult would it be to add a flag in the config so if you are using a canadian login, the canadian url is used?

I use VPN to get a US IP, but I have a canadian account. It works fine from a browser, but with the plug in, instant watch will not work as Netflix seperates their portal.

For example, I can use this in a browser for Star Trek (new movie)
http://ca.movies.netflix.com/CommunityAPIPlay?movieid=http://api.netflix.com/catalog/movie/70101276&nbb=y&cRedirect=true

and actually I can leave off the Redirect part and it works
http://ca.movies.netflix.com/CommunityAPIPlay?movieid=http://api.netflix.com/catalog/movie/70101276&nbb=y

but the plug in uses the US address
http://www.netflix.com/CommunityAPIPlay?movieid=http://api.netflix.com/catalog/movie/70101276&nbb=y

if there was a setting in the config for canada so it opened ca.movies.netflix.com instead of www.netflix.com, then most things would play.

I also tested the canadian url with a canadian IP. It workes there as well.
Mind you, I don't know about the content displayed, as the lists likely would be all US based unless a country flag could be used for pulling the data. But for us VPN people, only the play url is an issue, so if there was to be a canadian listings option, preferably that setting should be seperate from a playback portal setting.

If there is something I can do to help with this, I will. I am not a 'real' programmer :) but I could test or whatever...

Thanks, Mike Barton.

Oh, I was looking into other media centers, and a guy changed XBMC netflix plugin to work by changing the web address used from www.netflix.ca to ca.netflix.com to fix an error there.

But I wanted to use VPN and the Canadian portal, so I tried changing www.netflix.com to ca.netflix.com in that file for XBMC and now I can play fine with XBMC using a Canadian account with VPN to US and on US content.

Is there a file containing the url like this in this plug in?

Thanks, Mike Barton

    Hey Joshuasdad,
This is being addressed in the 2.0 version.

A question for all Canadian users... Has anyone created an account on the myReelTalk.com site yet and authorized their Netflix accounts? I am interested to see what will happen when you authorize your account. Again, myReelTalk is the backbone for the new plugin and will serve up all the content. If it does not work correctly, then the plugin will most certainly not work correctly.

    Thanks!
    Wile E.

I just tried to authorize my (CA) Netflix account with myReelTalk and it didn't seem to work. It showed as authorizing, but none of my watch list or anything is showing up. I have emailed their support to see if they support Canadian Netflix or not.

I will report back when I get a response.

Your work on getting this working with Netflix for us up North is MUCH appreciated.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do.

    Cheers!

Hey MojoFlow, thank you for testing for me!

I think I have found a solution to this issue. Until Netflix officially supports Canada in the API I am going to add a country field in the account settings on the myReelTalk.com site. If you select Canada, it will automatically disable the 'Instant Queue' and 'Disc Queue' options, and the 'New Instant Movies' and 'New Instant TV Series' menu items will pull from the Netflix Canada RSS feed. You can utilize the 'Watch List' and 'Favorite Movies & TV Series' to create a "virtual queue" if you will, so you can queue movies to watch in the MediaPortal plugin.

These changes should only take a week or so...

    Thanks,
    Wile E.

    That sounds great!

Let me know when you want me to do some more testing. I am looking forward to having access to my NetFlix from inside MediaPortal :)

Just wondering is the workaround for Netflix Canada was working?

    Hey Chap1,
As I mentioned above, until Netflix supports Canada in the API we will be working on a solution in version 2. I will let everyone know when we have the system ready for testing.

    Thanks!
    Wile E.
