The original TV software can scan channel 18 (OTA 11.1 Hamilton Ontario Canada) and gets it fine, while scanning with 1.2.1, it skips right past 18. I know there is a signal at 18, because I was watching it with the original software. I shut that down and tried a scan a few minutes after it, so that the server would get a chance at the card, I could preview all the channels listed, but during a scan 18 fails with "No signal", which is clearly incorrect. I went looking for a list of the channel offsets so I could see if there is a typo, or what settings could I do to provide the scanner with ample room to move, so it can find 18 properly?

    Hi GuruSR

So we're talking ATSC channel 18 here? ATSC channels are scanned by channel number - there are no frequencies or offsets in the TV Server code for ATSC scanning. Our hands are tied because you haven't provided logs (please read the support thread and bug report rules) so we can't properly analyse the problem. Use the watchdog with option 3 to generate a zip file containing your scan logs if you're running the TV Server and MediaPortal on the same machine, else start TV Server configuration, click "open log directory" in the top left hand corner, and zip up all the files you find there. Post the zip file here and also list the names of the channels you're missing...

Hi, the log is there, just did a scan minutes ago, still "No signal" on 18, and definitely there is signal there.

Also, side note, in window mode the client, maximizing with EVR in use, causes it to not be able to play any stream (2.0 error). It will however play if I exit and re-run and leave the window size alone (probably a skin issue), but it won't show HD quality signals (just get audio), it's 56Mb wifi, so I'm thinking N is needed for HD, not an issue really, just commenting.

    Hi mm,

This channel is the same channel you posted the modified files for me, as the Canadian digital transition was happening at the end of August. The 1.2 scan engine doesn't pick the station up.....remember that thread?

    GuruSR,

CHCH Hamilton no longer broadcasts on RF18 since the digital transition, so you should not be looking for it on 18. Once they shut down their analog transmitter on 11, they shut down the interim digital one on 18, and brought their final digital transmission up on 11.

You may need to add a VHF antenna now to get it, as it is much weaker now on RF 11. Also, you will not be able to scan it in properly with any MP version since 1.2 started. Look in the MP 1.2 bug threads, for a thread about scanning problems, and you'll find the altered files needed to scan CHCH in using up to date MP. See here https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/mediaportal-1-2-0-beta-540/atsc-scanning-problem-99537/

Actually........an update was posted there by mm for 1.2 RC, but not for final or 1.2.1. Would he need a new version of the files for 1.2.1 mm?

Ah, yes, you're right, it isn't on 18 anymore (forgot to update my list), so yes, I'll look att he scanning issue, but yes, 1.2.1 is what I'm using, will this patch work for final?

Update: Tried to manually add the channel as per the instructions for the aforementioned link (ATSC scanning problem), triple checked the values, I'm being told "Incorrect Input" "Please enter a valid frequency!" The values I've added are:

    Channel: 11
    Frequency: -1
    Major: 11
    Minor: 1
    Modulation: Mod8Vsb
    NetworkId: 0
    TransportId: 17091
    ServiceId: 1
    PmtPid: 16
    Provider: mm

So I can't add it in manually, nor can I scan it, should I try the library thats listed last in the ATSC scanning problem link?

Another channel missing, this time, it's a new convert to digital (19.1 TVO), it's not being scanned, even with the latest TSwriter.ax (9/1/2011) from the other thread. Obviously, I can't manually enter the channels as described in the previous thread, the software complains about an invalid frequency (with or without "Free to Air" checked).

I'm using the default 1.2.1 files, as I already had channel 11 scanned in to the database, before upgrade, so I had no need to install modified files for now.

I just ran a scan test, and channel 11 still comes back as nothing found, due to a misconfiguration at the station's end, but TVO 19 scans in fine with the default 1.2.1 files.

Here's another data point from a totally separate tuner view point. I use 4TR (Argus) and get nothing on channel 11 and mostly excellent picture on TVO 19. Regarding channel 11, when hooked directly to the TV, my Sony KDL40V3000 picked up channel 11 comfortably.

    Hi everyone

x4mer: yes I remember the thread. I was hoping that you and marbles would be able to convince the broadcaster to fix their parameters. There is nothing wrong with the signal on that channel/frequency - just that some software/receivers/TVs will be more or less strict about adherence to standards. I don't want to bury my head in the sand here and say that the broadcaster must fix this problem and we won't do anything about it, however that really would be the best outcome in my opinion. I'd encourage you to contact this broadcaster and urge them to make the change. I provided the technical information about the issue in the other thread and I'd be happy to answer direct questions from the broadcaster via email if necessary...

GuruSR: I can confirm the issue. *sigh*.
