Hoping someone can help with this! I live in South Korea and my cable provider has a "hit or miss" way of distrubting content. When I do a ClearQAM scan with MediaPortal on my Hauppauge 2250, the scan finds over 500 channels. The majority or encrypted of are just data channels. There are 257 ClearQAM channels that are finally viewable. Of these, many are shopping channels or repeats of channels. The issue is that the five major broadcast channels in high def are not picked up. These channels are found in Windows 7. I beleieve that the issue is that the channels are broadcast on non-standard frequencies using 8VSB modulation. To further explain, the five channels appear to be broadcast as ATSC (8VSB) on a channels outside of the ATSC scan range. For example, Windows 7 finds SBS HD TV (1920x1080) channel 83.1 and displays this on virtual channel 6.1. My HDTVs have no problem finding these channels. MedialPortal and Hauppauge software cannot since scans are limited to the range of 2 - 69. I have an older Sony HDTV that provides the real channel number, frequency, and modulation so I can get this information for these channels. What I do not know is all the other information MediaPortal asks when trying to add these channels manually. Is there a stand-alone utility to scan HDTV channels and provide this information?
